于是那些要拷问他的人，立刻退下了。千夫长既知道他是罗马公民，又因为捆绑了他，就惧怕起来。

愿主施怜悯给奥尼斯弗罗的家人，因为他多次使我神清气爽，也没有以我的锁链为耻；

我回答他们：在被告还没有与原告当面对质，并且对被控罪名还没有获得申辩机会以前，就把被告交出去，这不符合罗马人的规矩。

于是彼拉多出来，到他们那里，说：“你们提出什么来控告这个人？”他们回答说：“这个人如果不是作恶的，我们就不会把他交给你了。”

保罗说：“无论话多话少，我向神祈求的，不仅是您，还有今天所有听我讲话的人都能成为像我这样的人，只是不要有这些锁链！”

我为这福音受苦，甚至像罪犯一样被捆绑；然而神的话语是不受捆绑的。

千夫长下令把保罗押进营楼，吩咐鞭打拷问他，要了解民众是因什么理由向他这样一直喊叫。当士兵们用皮条捆上保罗的时候，他对站在旁边的百夫长说：“你们鞭打一个没有被定罪的罗马公民，可以吗？”
