This went on for the next two years, so that people throughout the province of Asia— both Jews and Greeks— heard the word of the Lord.

Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.

Then Paul went to the synagogue and preached boldly for the next three months, arguing persuasively about the Kingdom of God.

I have done the Lord’s work humbly and with many tears. I have endured the trials that came to me from the plots of the Jews.

So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.

But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away.

“ Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, warn people immediately.If I warn the wicked, saying,‘ You are under the penalty of death,’ but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. And I will hold you responsible for their deaths.If you warn them and they refuse to repent and keep on sinning, they will die in their sins. But you will have saved yourself because you obeyed me.“ If righteous people turn away from their righteous behavior and ignore the obstacles I put in their way, they will die. And if you do not warn them, they will die in their sins. None of their righteous acts will be remembered, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths.

On the first day of the week, we gathered with the local believers to share in the Lord’s Supper. Paul was preaching to them, and since he was leaving the next day, he kept talking until midnight.

But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.

I am not writing these things to shame you, but to warn you as my beloved children.

Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.

But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to watch him baptize, he denounced them.“ You brood of snakes!” he exclaimed.“ Who warned you to flee the coming wrath?

Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.”

We never accepted food from anyone without paying for it. We worked hard day and night so we would not be a burden to any of you.

“ After several years away, I returned to Jerusalem with money to aid my people and to offer sacrifices to God.

“ The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return— in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”

“ Look, I will come as unexpectedly as a thief! Blessed are all who are watching for me, who keep their clothing ready so they will not have to walk around naked and ashamed.”

Then they all went back upstairs, shared in the Lord’s Supper, and ate together. Paul continued talking to them until dawn, and then he left.

Don’t you remember, dear brothers and sisters, how hard we worked among you? Night and day we toiled to earn a living so that we would not be a burden to any of you as we preached God’s Good News to you.You yourselves are our witnesses— and so is God— that we were devout and honest and faultless toward all of you believers.
