就走進去，對眾人說：“為甚麼大哭大嚷呢？孩子不是死了，是睡著了。”

耶穌進了那主管的家，看見有吹笛的人和喧嘩的群眾，就說：“出去！這女孩不是死了，只是睡了。”他們就嘲笑他。

他又上床伏在孩子身上，使自己的口對著孩子的口，自己的眼對著孩子的眼，自己的手放在孩子的手上；他伏在孩子身上，孩子的身體就漸漸溫暖起來。然後他下來在房內來回走了一趟，再上去，伏在孩子身上；那孩子打了七個噴嚏，跟著就張開了眼睛。

耶穌說完了這些話，跟著又對他們說：“我們的朋友拉撒路睡了，我要去喚醒他。”

主看見了，就憐憫她，對她說：“不要哭！”

耶穌說：“我不是對你說過‘如果你信，就必定看見神的榮耀’嗎？”

然後，以利亞三次伏在孩子的身上，向耶和華呼求說：“耶和華我的神，求你恢復這孩子的生命吧。”耶和華垂聽了以利亞的話，孩子的生命果然恢復，活過來了。
