耶稣进去问道：“你们为什么大哭大嚷呢？这孩子并没有死，只是睡着了。”

耶稣来到管理会堂之人的家，看见殡葬的吹乐手和乱嚷嚷的人群，就吩咐他们：“你们出去吧，这女孩并没有死，只是睡着了。”他们都讥笑祂。

祷告后，他上床伏在孩子身上，口对口，眼对眼，手对手，孩子的身体渐渐变暖了。然后，以利沙起来在房内来回走了一趟，又上床伏在孩子身上。孩子打了七个喷嚏，便睁开了眼睛。

接着耶稣又说：“我们的朋友拉撒路已经睡了，我去叫醒他。”

耶稣看见那寡妇，怜悯之心油然而生，就对她说：“不要哭！”

耶稣说：“我不是跟你说过，只要你信，就会看见上帝的荣耀吗？”

他三次伏在孩子身上，求告耶和华说：“我的上帝耶和华啊，求你让这孩子活过来吧。”耶和华听了以利亚的祈求，孩子就活过来了。
