But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.

But David was a prophet. He knew that God had made a promise to him. God had promised that he would make someone in David’s family line king after him.

Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne,

and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will cause thee to rest from all thine enemies. Moreover Jehovah telleth thee that Jehovah will make thee a house.When thy days are fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, that shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;but my lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made sure for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.

I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant:Thy seed will I establish for ever, And build up thy throne to all generations.[ Selah

The Spirit of Jehovah spake by me, And his word was upon my tongue.

Brethren, it was needful that the scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spake before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus.

Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel:

Wherein God, being minded to show more abundantly unto the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath;

And hath raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of his servant David( As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets that have been from of old),

Then thou spakest in vision to thy saints, And saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.I have found David my servant; With my holy oil have I anointed him:With whom my hand shall be established; Mine arm also shall strengthen him.The enemy shall not exact from him, Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.And I will beat down his adversaries before him, And smite them that hate him.But my faithfulness and my lovingkindness shall be with him; And in my name shall his horn be exalted.I will set his hand also on the sea, And his right hand on the rivers.He shall cry unto me, Thou art my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.I also will make him my first- born, The highest of the kings of the earth.My lovingkindness will I keep for him for evermore; And my covenant shall stand fast with him.His seed also will I make to endure for ever, And his throne as the days of heaven.If his children forsake my law, And walk not in mine ordinances;If they break my statutes, And keep not my commandments;Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, And their iniquity with stripes.But my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, Nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.My covenant will I not break, Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.Once have I sworn by my holiness: I will not lie unto David:His seed shall endure for ever, And his throne as the sun before me.It shall be established for ever as the moon, And as the faithful witness in the sky.[ Selah

And it shall come to pass, when thy days are fulfilled that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will set up thy seed after thee, who shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne for ever.I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee;but I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom for ever; and his throne shall be established for ever.According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

Wherefore, even as the Holy Spirit saith, To- day if ye shall hear his voice,

And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

he again defineth a certain day, To- day, saying in David so long a time afterward( even as hath been said before), To- day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts.

Give the king thy judgments, O God, And thy righteousness unto the king’s son.He will judge thy people with righteousness, And thy poor with justice.The mountains shall bring peace to the people, And the hills, in righteousness.He will judge the poor of the people, He will save the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor.They shall fear thee while the sun endureth, And so long as the moon, throughout all generations.He will come down like rain upon the mown grass, As showers that water the earth.In his days shall the righteous flourish, And abundance of peace, till the moon be no more.He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, And from the River unto the ends of the earth.They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; And his enemies shall lick the dust.The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall render tribute: The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.Yea, all kings shall fall down before him; All nations shall serve him.For he will deliver the needy when he crieth, And the poor, that hath no helper.He will have pity on the poor and needy, And the souls of the needy he will save.He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence; And precious will their blood be in his sight:And they shall live; and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: And men shall pray for him continually; They shall bless him all the day long.There shall be abundance of grain in the earth upon the top of the mountains; The fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: And they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.His name shall endure for ever; His name shall be continued as long as the sun: And men shall be blessed in him; All nations shall call him happy.Blessed be Jehovah God, the God of Israel, Who only doeth wondrous things:And blessed be his glorious name for ever; And let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen, and Amen.

And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people:for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.

( for they indeed have been made priests without an oath; but he with an oath by him that saith of him, The Lord sware and will not repent himself, Thou art a priest for ever);

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end am I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.

Jehovah saith unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, Until I make thine enemies thy footstool.Jehovah will send forth the rod of thy strength out of Zion: Rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.Thy people offer themselves willingly In the day of thy power, in holy array: Out of the womb of the morning Thou hast the dew of thy youth.Jehovah hath sworn, and will not repent: Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchizedek.The Lord at thy right hand Will strike through kings in the day of his wrath.

For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,to whom also Abraham divided a tenth part of all( being first, by interpretation, King of righteousness, and then also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

But thou, Beth- lehem Ephrathah, which art little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of thee shall one come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.

And he hath on his garment and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

David himself said in the Holy Spirit, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

And he said unto them, These are my words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me.

Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will perform that good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah.In those days, and at that time, will I cause a Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.

In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old;that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all the nations that are called by my name, saith Jehovah that doeth this.

Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name whereby he shall be called: Jehovah our righteousness.

Yet I have set my king Upon my holy hill of Zion.I will tell of the decree: Jehovah said unto me, Thou art my son; This day have I begotten thee.Ask of me, and I will give thee the nations for thine inheritance, And the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; Thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.Now therefore be wise, O ye kings: Be instructed, ye judges of the earth.Serve Jehovah with fear, And rejoice with trembling.Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way, For his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all they that take refuge in him.

concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,

He saith unto them, How then doth David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,

And again, Isaiah saith, There shall be the root of Jesse, And he that ariseth to rule over the Gentiles; On him shall the Gentiles hope.

These shall war against the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them, for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings; and they also shall overcome that are with him, called and chosen and faithful.
