Paul said,“ John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”

Paul said,“ John baptized people, calling them to turn away from their sins. He told them to believe in the one who was coming after him. Jesus is that one.”

And Paul said,“ John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.”

Paul said,“ John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.”

Paul said,“ John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”

Then Paul said,“ John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”

And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him that should come after him, that is, on Jesus.

Paul said,“ John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the One who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Paul said,“ John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus.”

Paul said,“ John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”

He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him.

It is He who comes after me, of whom I am not worthy even to untie the strap of His sandal.”

From the descendants of this man, according to promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus,after John had proclaimed, before His coming, a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.And while John was completing his course, he kept saying,‘ What do you suppose that I am? I am not He. But behold, one is coming after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

The next day he* saw Jesus coming to him, and* said,“ Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!This is He in behalf of whom I said,‘ After me is coming a Man who has proved to be my superior, because He existed before me.’And I did not recognize Him, but so that He would be revealed to Israel, I came baptizing in water.”And John testified, saying,“ I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.And I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me,‘ He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’And I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”

and said to Him,“ Are You the Coming One, or are we to look for someone else?”Jesus answered and said to them,“ Go and report to John what you hear and see:those who are blind receive sight and those who limp walk, those with leprosy are cleansed and those who are deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God,just as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:“ Behold, I am sending My messenger before You, Who will prepare Your way;The voice of one calling out in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!’ ”John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist, and his diet was locusts and wild honey.And he was preaching, saying,“ After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to bend down and untie the straps of His sandals.I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.And immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon Him;and a voice came from the heavens:“ You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”And immediately the Spirit* brought Him out into the wilderness.

John* testified about Him and called out, saying,“ This was He of whom I said,‘ He who is coming after me has proved to be my superior, because He existed before me.’ ”

You yourselves are my witnesses that I said,‘ I am not the Christ,’ but,‘ I have been sent ahead of Him.’He who has the bride is the groom; but the friend of the groom, who stands and listens to him, rejoices greatly because of the groom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made full.He must increase, but I must decrease.“ He who comes from above is above all; the one who is only from the earth is of the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.What He has seen and heard, of this He testifies; and no one accepts His testimony.The one who has accepted His testimony has certified that God is true.For He whom God sent speaks the words of God; for He does not give the Spirit sparingly.The Father loves the Son and has entrusted all things to His hand.The one who believes in the Son has eternal life; but the one who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

“ As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

John responded to them all, saying,“ As for me, I baptize you with water; but He is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the straps of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.His winnowing fork is in His hand to thoroughly clear His threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”So with many other exhortations he preached the gospel to the people.

The baptism of John was from what source: from heaven or from men?” And they began considering the implications among themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say to us,‘ Then why did you not believe him?’But if we say,‘ From men,’ we fear the people; for they all regard John as a prophet.”And answering Jesus, they said,“ We do not know.” He also said to them,“ Neither am I telling you by what authority I do these things.“ But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said,‘ Son, go work today in the vineyard.’But he replied,‘ I do not want to.’ Yet afterward he regretted it and went.And the man came to his second son and said the same thing; and he replied,‘ I will, sir’; and yet he did not go.Which of the two did the will of his father?” They* said,“ The first.” Jesus* said to them,“ Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you.For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even have second thoughts afterward so as to believe him.

And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say,‘ John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

You have sent messengers to John, and he has testified to the truth.But the testimony I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.He was the lamp that was burning and shining, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.

for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

And you, child, also will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on before the Lord to prepare His ways;To give His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins,Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,To shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”
