Now when they heard this, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying,“ Great is Diana of the Ephesians!”

他們聽了，怒氣沖沖喊著說：“以弗所人的女神，偉大的亞底米啊！”

他們聽見，就滿心暴怒，喊着說：『偉大呀，以弗所人的亞底米！』

眾人聽了，就滿腔怒火，喊叫說：「以弗所人偉大的阿蒂米絲！」

眾聞之、怒甚、呼曰、大哉、以弗所人之亞底米也、

眾聞此、怒甚、呼曰、大哉、以弗所人之亞氐米也、

眾聞此大怒、呼曰、大哉以弗所人之亞底米也、

眾聞之、憤甚、咆哮曰：『大哉依法所人之諦雅納！』

When they heard this, they were furious and began shouting:“ Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

At this their anger boiled, and they began shouting,“ Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

And when they heard this they were filled with wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying,“ Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,

crying out,“ Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches all men everywhere against the people, the law, and this place; and furthermore he also brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.”( For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)And all the city was disturbed; and the people ran together, seized Paul, and dragged him out of the temple; and immediately the doors were shut.Now as they were seeking to kill him, news came to the commander of the garrison that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

The coastlands saw it and feared, The ends of the earth were afraid; They drew near and came.Everyone helped his neighbor, And said to his brother,“ Be of good courage!”So the craftsman encouraged the goldsmith; He who smooths with the hammer inspired him who strikes the anvil, Saying,“ It is ready for the soldering”; Then he fastened it with pegs, That it might not totter.

These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.

But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities.And they brought them to the magistrates, and said,“ These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city;and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe.”Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods.And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely.Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

A drought is against her waters, and they will be dried up. For it is the land of carved images, And they are insane with their idols.

So they took the bull which was given them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying,“ O Baal, hear us!” But there was no voice; no one answered. Then they leaped about the altar which they had made.And so it was, at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said,“ Cry aloud, for he is a god; either he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened.”So they cried aloud, and cut themselves, as was their custom, with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them.And when midday was past, they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice. But there was no voice; no one answered, no one paid attention.

Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”

But when they found out that he was a Jew, all with one voice cried out for about two hours,“ Great is Diana of the Ephesians!”And when the city clerk had quieted the crowd, he said:“ Men of Ephesus, what man is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple guardian of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?

And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and set it in its place again.And when they arose early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the ground before the ark of the Lord. The head of Dagon and both the palms of its hands were broken off on the threshold; only Dagon’s torso was left of it.Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon’s house tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.

When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

And he came to Ephesus, and left them there; but he himself entered the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.
