“ And now I am on my way to Jerusalem, compelled by the Spirit, not knowing what I will encounter there,

For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus to avoid spending time in the province of Asia, because he was hurrying to be in Jerusalem, if possible, for the day of Pentecost.

The following night, the Lord stood by him and said,“ Have courage! For as you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so it is necessary for you to testify in Rome.”

but he said farewell and added,“ I’ll come back to you again, if God wills.” Then he set sail from Ephesus.

Now I don’t want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I often planned to come to you( but was prevented until now) in order that I might have a fruitful ministry among you, just as I have had among the rest of the Gentiles.

and said,‘ Don’t be afraid, Paul. It is necessary for you to appear before Caesar. And indeed, God has graciously given you all those who are sailing with you.’

Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually advanced the gospel,so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard, and to everyone else, that my imprisonment is because I am in Christ.Most of the brothers have gained confidence in the Lord from my imprisonment and dare even more to speak the word fearlessly.

When we reached Jerusalem, the brothers and sisters welcomed us warmly.

As a result, you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.

They went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia; they had been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia.When they came to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.Passing by Mysia they went down to Troas.During the night Paul had a vision in which a Macedonian man was standing and pleading with him,“ Cross over to Macedonia and help us!”After he had seen the vision, we immediately made efforts to set out for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

While Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack against Paul and brought him to the tribunal.

After the uproar was over, Paul sent for the disciples, encouraged them, and after saying farewell, departed to go to Macedonia.And when he had passed through those areas and offered them many words of encouragement, he came to Greeceand stayed three months. The Jews plotted against him when he was about to set sail for Syria, and so he decided to go back through Macedonia.He was accompanied by Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea, Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius from Derbe, Timothy, and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia.These men went on ahead and waited for us in Troas,but we sailed away from Philippi after the Festival of Unleavened Bread. In five days we reached them at Troas, where we spent seven days.

I will come to you after I pass through Macedonia— for I will be traveling through Macedonia—

Who is there who speaks and it happens, unless the Lord has ordained it?

So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

Because of this confidence, I planned to come to you first, so that you could have a second benefit,and to visit you on my way to Macedonia, and then come to you again from Macedonia and be helped by you on my journey to Judea.Now when I planned this, was I of two minds? Or what I plan, do I plan in a purely human way so that I say“ Yes, yes” and“ No, no” at the same time?As God is faithful, our message to you is not“ Yes and no.”

We sought out the disciples and stayed there seven days. Through the Spirit they told Paul not to go to Jerusalem.

Paul replied,“ I am standing at Caesar’s tribunal, where I ought to be tried. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as even you yourself know very well.If then I did anything wrong and am deserving of death, I am not trying to escape death; but if there is nothing to what these men accuse me of, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar!”Then after Festus conferred with his council, he replied,“ You have appealed to Caesar; to Caesar you will go.”

When we entered Rome, Paul was allowed to live by himself with the soldier who guarded him.

When it was decided that we were to sail to Italy, they handed over Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion named Julius, of the Imperial Regiment.

Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along also.

He came to us, took Paul’s belt, tied his own feet and hands, and said,“ This is what the Holy Spirit says:‘ In this way the Jews in Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him over to the Gentiles.’”When we heard this, both we and the local people pleaded with him not to go up to Jerusalem.Then Paul replied,“ What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”Since he would not be persuaded, we said no more except,“ The Lord’s will be done.”After this we got ready and went up to Jerusalem.

Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house. And he welcomed all who visited him,proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.

After many years, I came to bring charitable gifts and offerings to my people.While I was doing this, some Jews from Asia found me ritually purified in the temple, without a crowd and without any uproar.

But now I no longer have any work to do in these regions, and I have strongly desired for many years to come to youwhenever I travel to Spain. For I hope to see you when I pass through and to be assisted by you for my journey there, once I have first enjoyed your company for a while.Right now I am traveling to Jerusalem to serve the saints,because Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.Yes, they were pleased, and indeed are indebted to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual benefits, then they are obligated to minister to them in material needs.So when I have finished this and safely delivered the funds to them, I will visit you on the way to Spain.I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.
