有一個名叫西門的人，自稱是個大人物，一向在那城裡行邪術，使撒馬利亞的居民十分驚訝。所有的人，從卑微的到尊貴的，都聽從他。他們說：「這個人就是那被稱為『神的大能者』的。」他們聽從他，因為他長期以來用邪術使他們十分驚訝。

他們走遍全島，直到帕福斯，遇見了一個名叫巴耶蘇的猶太人，是個行法術的假先知。

堅持施行你的符咒和眾多法術吧！那些都是你從年輕時辛勞所得的，或許你能得益處，或許還能讓人恐懼呢！你因謀劃過多而筋疲力盡；現在就讓那些劃分天象、觀看星辰、在新月時說預言的都站出來吧，拯救你脫離那些將要臨到你的事！

如果你的右眼使你絆倒，就把它剜出來丟掉！因為對你來說，失去你身體的一部分，總比你全身被丟進地獄要好。如果你的右手使你絆倒，就把它砍下來丟掉！因為對你來說，失去你身體的一部分，總比你全身下地獄要好。

掃羅就對他的臣僕們說：「你們為我尋找一個招魂的女巫吧，我好去她那裡求問。」臣僕們對他說：「看哪，在恩多爾有一個招魂的女巫。」於是掃羅喬裝，穿上別的衣服，然後帶著兩個人與他一同前往。他們夜間去見那女人，掃羅說：「請你用招魂術，把我告訴你的人為我招上來。」那女人對他說：「看哪，你知道掃羅所做的事，他把招魂的和通靈的從國中剪除了。你為什麼對我設下圈套，要害死我呢？」

的確，你們不但同情了那些被囚禁的人，而且當自己所擁有的被奪去時，你們也甘心接受了，因為知道你們在天上有更好的、長存的產業。

於是他們把自己手中所有的外邦神像和自己耳朵上的環子都交給雅各；雅各把它們埋藏在示劍附近的橡樹底下。

你要羞辱你那些包銀的雕像和鍍金的鑄像，要拋棄它們如同拋棄汙穢之物，要對它們說：「給我出去！」

同樣，你們當中任何人，如果不向自己所擁有的一切告別，就不能做我的門徒。

到那日，人必把那些為敬拜而造的金偶像和銀偶像拋給田鼠和蝙蝠；這是為了在耶和華起來震動大地的時候，他們能進入磐石縫、巖隙中，躲避耶和華令人恐懼的面和他威嚴的榮光。

儘管有人對你們說：「求問那些喃喃自語、念念有詞的招魂者和通靈者吧」，但百姓難道不應當求問自己的神嗎？難道應當為活人求問死人嗎？
