Following Paul and us, she cried out,“ These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us a way of salvation!”

Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to Yahweh’s law.

Who is wise, that he may understand these things? Who is prudent, that he may know them? For the ways of Yahweh are right, and the righteous walk in them; But the rebellious stumble in them.

This is John’s testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him,“ Who are you?”He declared, and didn’t deny, but he declared,“ I am not the Christ.”They asked him,“ What then? Are you Elijah?” He said,“ I am not.”“ Are you the prophet?” He answered,“ No.”They said therefore to him,“ Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. His food was locusts and wild honey.Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them,“ You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!Don’t think to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.“ Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”

Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.

No soldier on duty entangles himself in the affairs of life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.

About that time there arose no small disturbance concerning the Way.

When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they declared God to be just, having been baptized with John’s baptism.

Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.He came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for remission of sins.As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,“ The voice of one crying in the wilderness,‘ Make ready the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.Every valley will be filled. Every mountain and hill will be brought low. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire,whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”Then with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people,but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias, his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done,added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus also had been baptized, and was praying.
