我发现他被控告，是为了他们律法上的问题，并没有什么该死该绑的罪名。

他是自高自大，一无所知，反而专好问难争辩，由此产生妒忌、纷争、毁谤、恶意的猜疑，

彼拉多见无济于事，反会引起骚动，就拿水在群众面前洗手，说：“流这人的血，与我无关，你们自己负责吧。”

我若作过不对的事，犯过什么该死的罪，就是死我也不推辞。不过，如果这些人告我的事不是真的，谁也不可以把我送给他们。我要向凯撒上诉。”

你要拒绝愚蠢无知的问难；你知道这些事会引起争论。

“我有罪了！我出卖了无辜的人﹙“人”原文作“血”。﹚！”他们说：“这是你的事，跟我们有什么关系？”

彼拉多对他们说：“你们自己把他带去，按着你们的律法审问他吧。”犹太人说：“我们没有权去判人死罪。”

你要远避愚昧的辩论、家谱、纷争和律法上的争执，因为这都是虚妄无益的。

特别是你熟悉犹太人的一切规例和争论，所以求你耐心听我申诉：

他还意图污秽圣殿，我们就把他捉住。（有些抄本在此有以下一段：“我们想按照我们的律法审问他。7可是千夫长吕西亚来了，用武力把他从我们手中抢走，8还吩咐原告到你这里来。”）

也不可沉迷于无稽之谈和无穷的家谱；这些事只能引起争论，对于神在信仰上所定的计划是毫无帮助的。
