Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to them,“ If you Jews were making a complaint about some misdemeanor or serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you.

Paul was about to give reasons for his actions. But just then Gallio spoke to them. He said,“ You Jews don’t claim that Paul has committed a great or small crime. If you did, it would make sense for me to listen to you.

But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews,“ If it were a matter of wrongdoing or vicious crime, O Jews, I would have reason to accept your complaint.

But just as Paul started to make his defense, Gallio turned to Paul’s accusers and said,“ Listen, you Jews, if this were a case involving some wrongdoing or a serious crime, I would have a reason to accept your case.

But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews,“ If it were a matter of some crime or vicious, unscrupulous act, O Jews, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you;

And when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews,“ If it were a matter of wrongdoing or wicked crimes, O Jews, there would be reason why I should bear with you.

But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked villany, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

And when Paul was now about to open[ his] mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O[ ye] Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

But just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to the Jews,“ If it were a matter of some crime or serious piece of villainy, I would have been justified in accepting the complaint of you Jews,

But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews,“ If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked crime, you Jews, it would be reasonable that I should bear with you;

But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear them or be intimidated,but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.

Agrippa said to Paul,“ You have permission to speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and began his defense:“ I consider myself fortunate that it is before you, King Agrippa, I am to make my defense today against all the accusations of the Jews,

Paul said,“ I am a Jewish man from Tarsus of Cilicia, a citizen of an important city. Now I ask you, let me speak to the people.”After he had given permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned with his hand to the people. When there was a great hush, he addressed them in Aramaic:“ Brothers and fathers, listen now to my defense before you.”When they heard that he was addressing them in Aramaic, they became even quieter.

When this man had been seized by the Jews and was about to be killed by them, I arrived with my troops and rescued him because I learned that he is a Roman citizen.Wanting to know the charge they were accusing him of, I brought him down before their Sanhedrin.I found out that the accusations were concerning questions of their law, and that there was no charge that merited death or imprisonment.

The accusers stood up but brought no charge against him of the evils I was expecting.Instead they had some disagreements with him about their own religion and about a certain Jesus, a dead man Paul claimed to be alive.Since I was at a loss in a dispute over such things, I asked him if he wanted to go to Jerusalem and be tried there regarding these matters.

He replied to them,“ You unbelieving generation, how long will I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him to me.”

If then I did anything wrong and am deserving of death, I am not trying to escape death; but if there is nothing to what these men accuse me of, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar!”

I have nothing definite to write to my lord about him. Therefore, I have brought him before all of you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that after this examination is over, I may have something to write.

And for about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness;

But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you. They will hand you over to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name.This will give you an opportunity to bear witness.Therefore make up your minds not to prepare your defense ahead of time,for I will give you such words and a wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he is also clothed with weakness.

For if a person comes and preaches another Jesus, whom we did not preach, or you receive a different spirit, which you had not received, or a different gospel, which you had not accepted, you put up with it splendidly!

I wish you would put up with a little foolishness from me. Yes, do put up with me!

For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the one in authority? Do what is good, and you will have its approval.
