But the Jews incited the God- fearing women of high social standing and the prominent men of the city, stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out of their region.

As the truth of Christ is in me, this boasting of mine will not be stopped in the regions of Achaia.

Now, brothers and sisters, you know about the household of Stephanus, that as the first converts of Achaia, they devoted themselves to ministry for the saints. I urge you

because I know your eagerness to help. I keep boasting to the Macedonians about this eagerness of yours, that Achaia has been ready to give since last year, and your zeal to participate has stirred up most of them.

As he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent a message to him:“ Have nothing to do with that innocent man; I have suffered greatly as a result of a dream about him today.”

From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the church of God that is in Corinth, with all the saints who are in all Achaia.

For Macedonia and Achaia are pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.

Paul replied,“ I am standing before Caesar’s judgment seat, where I should be tried. I have done nothing wrong to the Jews, as you also know very well.

As a result you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.For from you the message of the Lord has echoed forth not just in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place reports of your faith in God have spread, so that we do not need to say anything.

When Pilate heard these words he brought Jesus outside and sat down on the judgment seat in the place called“ The Stone Pavement”( Gabbatha in Aramaic).

But when the Jews from Thessalonica heard that Paul had also proclaimed the word of God in Berea, they came there too, inciting and disturbing the crowds.

But the Jews became jealous, and gathering together some worthless men from the rabble in the marketplace, they formed a mob and set the city in an uproar. They attacked Jason’s house, trying to find Paul and Silas to bring them out to the assembly.

But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and after winning the crowds over, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, presuming him to be dead.

But you have dishonored the poor! Are not the rich oppressing you and dragging you into the courts?

When the seven days were almost over, the Jews from the province of Asia who had seen him in the temple area stirred up the whole crowd and seized him,shouting,“ Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people, our law, and this sanctuary! Furthermore he has brought Greeks into the inner courts of the temple and made this holy place ritually unclean!”( For they had seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him previously, and they assumed Paul had brought him into the inner temple courts.)The whole city was stirred up, and the people rushed together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple courts, and immediately the doors were shut.While they were trying to kill him, a report was sent up to the commanding officer of the cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion.He immediately took soldiers and centurions and ran down to the crowd. When they saw the commanding officer and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.Then the commanding officer came up and arrested him and ordered him to be tied up with two chains; he then asked who he was and what he had done.But some in the crowd shouted one thing, and others something else, and when the commanding officer was unable to find out the truth because of the disturbance, he ordered Paul to be brought into the barracks.When he came to the steps, Paul had to be carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the mob,for a crowd of people followed them, screaming,“ Away with him!”

But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.

Then he had them forced away from the judgment seat.So they all seized Sosthenes, the president of the synagogue, and began to beat him in front of the judgment seat. Yet none of these things were of any concern to Gallio.

Then when the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, because he was greatly astounded at the teaching about the Lord.

Also greet the church in their house. Greet my dear friend Epenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in the province of Asia.
