有一個人名叫底米丟，是個銀匠，是製造亞底米銀龕的；他使這樣手藝的人得了不少的生意。他集合了他們、以及四圍這種手藝的工人，說：『同人們，你們知道我們的財是由這個生意而發的。你們看，你們聽，不但在以弗所、也幾乎在全亞西亞、這個保羅都唆誘了帶壞了好大羣的人，說：「那些用人手作的並不是神。」這樣，不但我們這工業有陷於不名譽的危險，就是大女神亞底米的廟也被算為無物了，並且連全亞西亞和天下所敬拜的、她的威榮也將要消損了。』他們聽見，就滿心暴怒，喊着說：『偉大呀，以弗所人的亞底米！』那城裏滿了紛亂；他們就抓住保羅的旅伴、馬其頓人該猶和亞里達古，同心合意齊心地衝進戲園。保羅有意思要進去到民眾中間，門徒卻不容許他。還有幾個亞西亞長、是跟保羅做朋友的、也打發人來見他，勸他不要自己投入戲園。當時有的喊這個，有的喊那個；那個會集紛紛亂亂，大多數人都不知道是為了甚麼而聚攏來。有人把亞力山大從羣眾中蜂擁出來，猶太人又推他往前；亞力山大就擺手，想要對民眾分訴。他們一認出他是猶太人，眾人中就發出一樣的聲音、約有兩個鐘頭，喊着說：『偉大呀，以弗所人的亞底米！』

不要好虛榮、彼此激怒、互相嫉妒。

關於今天的事、我們實在有被告為攪動亂事的危險，因為是無緣無故的。關於這事、這個鬧事的集合、我們也不能指出理由來。』
