蓋自有世以來、天主形而上之神性靈德、實可憑其所造之萬物而辨認洞見也。然則世人亦烏得而推諉乎？夫既知有天主矣乃又不以天主事之、而頌詠稱謝焉；復因鑿空蹈虛、流連忘返、以致其冥頑之心、淪於重昏。若輩自誇明哲、轉成下愚；忍棄永生者天主之真榮、而易以必朽者人類禽獸蛇蟲之偶像。

竟以牛像。替彼尊極。夫牛何靈。惟草是齕。

意謂主無眼。不復眷雅谷。麻木焉得仁。冥頑何時靈。孰云作耳者。自身反不聞。孰云造目者。自身轉無明。
