既為天主所生、則不當思天主之體、似金似銀似石、為人工機巧所製、

夫吾人既為天主之裔、則不當妄度天主之神性、有類乎人工技巧所琢之金銀玉石。

“ Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone— an image made by human design and skill.

異邦偶像、乃銀乃金、人手所造、有口不言、有目不見、有耳不聞、有鼻不嗅、有手不挈、有足不行、喉不出言兮、造之者、賴之者、必似之兮、

聖者曰、爾以誰擬我、使之等我、

勿雕偶像、勿造上天下地、地下水中、百物之像、

謂木曰寤、謂啞石曰起、其人禍哉、此物豈能垂訓乎、彼飾以金銀、而中無生氣、惟耶和華在其聖殿、全地當靜默於其前、

爾以誰譬我、俾能相若、以誰擬我、而得從同、人傾囊出金、權衡其銀、僱厥金工、以鑄神像、俯伏而拜、

誰掬掌以測海、布指以度天、斗量塵寰、權山衡嶽、誰度耶和華之心、為其謀士、而訓迪之、誰與參議、誰為其師、訓以智慧、誨以公正之途、導以通達之路、其視列國、若器中之滴水、若衡上之微塵、其移島嶼、若徙纖微之物、欲獻燔祭、利巴嫩林不足以焚、其中百獸不敷厥用、在於其前、萬國若無、視為空曠虛無、如是、爾曹以誰比上帝、以何象像之、工鑄偶像、金工包之以金、為製銀鏈、惟彼貧乏、不能取此以獻、則選不朽之木、而覓巧工、俾作雕像、堅立不移、

亞倫受之、鎔鑄刻鏤為犢、眾曰、以色列人歟、此即導爾出埃及之神也、

自創世以來、上帝之永能神性、即所莫見者、已明見矣、乃由所造之物而知之、致人末由推諉、顧彼既知上帝、而不以上帝榮之、亦不謝之、乃思議虛妄、心蠢而昧、自稱為智、適成為愚、以不朽上帝之榮、而易以必朽之人、及禽獸昆蟲之狀、○

如是以彼之榮、易為嚙芻之牛像兮、

以銀與金飾之、以鎚與釘釘之、使不動搖、依椶樹之形鏇之、彼不能言、亦不能行、須人舁之、不能作惡、無能行善、爾勿畏之、耶和華歟、無如爾者、惟爾為大、爾名大有能力、萬國之王歟、孰不宜寅畏爾、此為爾所應得、列邦智者顯厥尊榮、無如爾者、彼皆冥頑無知、偶像之道、惟木而已、有銀運自他施、擣之成片、有金至自烏法、金匠製之、有藍紫之布為衣、悉屬巧工所製、惟耶和華誠為上帝、乃維生之上帝、永久之王、震怒則大地顫動、發忿則列國莫當、○

造雕像者、悉為虛妄、其所悅者無益、彼之證者不見不知、必致愧怍、誰造神像、或鑄無益之偶、凡宗之者、咸生愧赧、造之之工、世人而已、任其聚會、屹立於此、必同戰慄、而慚恧焉、鐵工熾炭鍛之、以鎚治之、竭一臂之力、而製造之、飢而疲乏、渴而困憊、木工布繩、畫之以筆、治之以鐋、正之以規、象人之形、猶人之美、處之於室、更伐香柏、亦取橡櫟、皆林木之堅者、或植杉木、得雨露之養、人取之為薪、用之暖體、燃之烘餅、或以之作神像、而崇拜之、雕偶像、而俯伏於其前、半以燃火、半以炙肉、食之果腹、復暖其身、曰、噫、我既溫暖、亦既觀火、尚有餘木、用之造神、以為雕像、俯伏拜之、禱曰、爾其救予、蓋爾為我神也、維彼不知不思、其目障翳不見、其心蒙蔽不明、無人想念、無知識、無聰明、不云材木之半、我已焚之以火、烘餅於炭、半以炙肉食之、豈可用其餘者、而作可憎之物、俯伏以拜木榦乎、彼乃食灰、中心昏迷、使之離途、弗能自救、不知自言、我之右手所執、非虛誕乎、○

乃曰耶和華不及見、雅各之上帝不介意兮、愚蠢之民、爾其思之、蒙昧之輩、何時為智乎、造耳者豈無聞、製目者豈無見乎、
