The LORD God formed the man from the soil of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

I am not condemning you because of your sacrifices, or because of your burnt sacrifices that you continually offer me.I do not need to take a bull from your household or goats from your sheepfolds.For every wild animal in the forest belongs to me, as well as the cattle that graze on a thousand hills.I keep track of every bird in the hills, and the insects of the field are mine.Even if I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and all it contains belong to me.Do I eat the flesh of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats?

If you sin, how does it affect God? If your transgressions are many, what does it do to him?If you are righteous, what do you give to God, or what does he receive from your hand?

Or who has first given to God, that God needs to repay him?

“ Is it to God that a strong man is of benefit? Is it to him that even a wise man is profitable?

The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

for while my spirit is still in me, and the breath from God is in my nostrils,

This is what the true God, the LORD, says– the one who created the sky and stretched it out, the one who fashioned the earth and everything that lives on it, the one who gives breath to the people on it, and life to those who live on it:

For in him we live and move about and exist, as even some of your own poets have said,‘ For we too are his offspring.’

All of your creatures wait for you to provide them with food on a regular basis.You give food to them and they receive it; you open your hand and they are filled with food.When you ignore them, they panic. When you take away their life’s breath, they die and return to dust.When you send your life-giving breath, they are created, and you replenish the surface of the ground.

Command those who are rich in this world’s goods not to be haughty or to set their hope on riches, which are uncertain, but on God who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment.

The revelation of the word of the LORD concerning Israel: The LORD– he who stretches out the heavens and lays the foundations of the earth, who forms the human spirit within a person– says,

I say to the LORD,“ You are the Lord, my only source of well-being.”

so that you may be like your Father in heaven, since he causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

in whose hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all the human race.

Go and learn what this saying means:‘ I want mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

yet he did not leave himself without a witness by doing good, by giving you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying you with food and your hearts with joy.”

If God were to set his heart on it, and gather in his spirit and his breath,

“ Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all humankind, appoint a man over the community,

For I will not be hostile forever or perpetually angry, for then man’s spirit would grow faint before me, the life-giving breath I created.

“ I absolutely despise your festivals! I get no pleasure from your religious assemblies!Even if you offer me burnt and grain offerings, I will not be satisfied; I will not look with favor on your peace offerings of fattened calves.Take away from me your noisy songs; I don’t want to hear the music of your stringed instruments.

So,” the Lord GOD says,“ my raging fury will be poured out on this land. It will be poured out on human beings and animals, on trees and crops. And it will burn like a fire which cannot be extinguished.”The LORD said to the people of Judah,“ The LORD God of Israel who rules over all says:‘ You might as well go ahead and add the meat of your burnt offerings to that of the other sacrifices and eat it, too!Consider this: When I spoke to your ancestors after I brought them out of Egypt, I did not merely give them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices.I also explicitly commanded them:“ Obey me. If you do, I will be your God and you will be my people. Live exactly the way I tell you and things will go well with you.”

Then they threw themselves down with their faces to the ground and said,“ O God, the God of the spirits of all people, will you be angry with the whole community when only one man sins?”
