for as I was walking along I saw your many shrines. And one of your altars had this inscription on it:‘ To an Unknown God.’ This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I’m telling you about.

因為我邊走邊觀察你們所敬拜的，發現一座祭壇上刻著『獻給不認識的神』；那麼，我把你們所不認識而敬拜的這一位，現在傳講給你們。

適遊行時、觀爾所拜者、遇一壇、書曰、未識之神、爾所未識而崇拜者、我明告爾、

我方行遊、見爾所拜、遇一壇、書曰、未識之上帝、爾所未識而崇奉者、我為爾告之、

我適遊行、欲觀爾所崇拜者、遇一祭壇、上刻曰、未識之主、爾所未識而崇拜者、今我告爾、

蓋吾嘗閒步街頭、一覽爾所崇拜之對象、偶值一壇、上書「獻於未識之神。」茲吾欲揭示於爾者、正爾所未識而敬事者也。

You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews.

Before you Gentiles knew God, you were slaves to so called gods that do not even exist.So now that you know God( or should I say, now that God knows you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world?

And this is the way to have eternal life— to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.

“ God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him.

Their worship is a farce, for they teach man made ideas as commands from God.’”

Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.

“ O righteous Father, the world doesn’t know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me.

Jesus answered,“ If I want glory for myself, it doesn’t count. But it is my Father who will glorify me. You say,‘ He is our God,’

Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.

There may be so called gods both in heaven and on earth, and some people actually worship many gods and many lords.

And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.

While you did all this, I remained silent, and you thought I didn’t care. But now I will rebuke you, listing all my charges against you.

He has not done this for any other nation; they do not know his regulations. Praise the Lord!

All honor and glory to God forever and ever! He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God. Amen.

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities— his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools.And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles.So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies.They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God.

Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake.For God, who said,“ Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.

In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope.
