因為我走遍各處的時候，留心看你們所敬拜的，居然遇見一座壇、上面寫着說：「獻與不認識的神」。那麼你們所不認識而敬拜的，我把這個傳布給你們。

因為我邊走邊觀察你們所敬拜的，發現一座祭壇上刻著『獻給不認識的神』；那麼，我把你們所不認識而敬拜的這一位，現在傳講給你們。

適遊行時、觀爾所拜者、遇一壇、書曰、未識之神、爾所未識而崇拜者、我明告爾、

我方行遊、見爾所拜、遇一壇、書曰、未識之上帝、爾所未識而崇奉者、我為爾告之、

我適遊行、欲觀爾所崇拜者、遇一祭壇、上刻曰、未識之主、爾所未識而崇拜者、今我告爾、

For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship— and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

惟時已臨、今即是矣、凡崇拜聖父者、當以精誠出之、若斯者乃聖父之所眷也。

然曩日爾未識天主、猶為偽神所奴；今爾已識天主、抑且為天主所識矣、何又返於支離瑣碎之蒙學、抱殘守缺、而甘為之奴乎？

人能識父為唯一真宰、及父所遣之耶穌基督、則永生即在斯中。

昔在蒙昧之世、天主尚予優容、今已檄曉人群、咸當幡然悔改、

既傳世教為寶訓、向我朝拜亦徒然。」』

蓋按天主之上智、世俗之智、既不足以認識天主、故天主甘用若愚之道以救信眾。

公義之父乎！世不識父、予則識父、而斯輩亦識父之遣予也。

耶穌曰：『予若自榮、亦何榮之有？榮予者吾父也！吾父非他、即爾自言為爾天主者是。

若輩既冥頑不靈、心棄天主、則天主亦愛莫能助、於是聽其昧心恣行、

世之所謂『天神』『地祇、』亦已多矣；

吾亦知天主聖子實曾降臨、賜吾澈悟、而認識真主、且吾人已與真實無妄之聖子耶穌基督、結為一體；是真天主、是真永生。

爾罪參在上。吾暫守緘默。遂謂吾無見。與爾為同德。詎知時已屆。將降爾顯罰。罪孽彰在目。何由逭爾責。

他族未有此。焉能明大法。

伏願一切尊榮、永歸萬世之王、有生無死、超乎形象之唯一天主、心焉祝之。

蓋自有世以來、天主形而上之神性靈德、實可憑其所造之萬物而辨認洞見也。然則世人亦烏得而推諉乎？夫既知有天主矣乃又不以天主事之、而頌詠稱謝焉；復因鑿空蹈虛、流連忘返、以致其冥頑之心、淪於重昏。若輩自誇明哲、轉成下愚；忍棄永生者天主之真榮、而易以必朽者人類禽獸蛇蟲之偶像。因是天主亦聽其縱情恣慾、淪於污穢、互辱其身。夫永遠可頌者、天主也、此輩乃捨真逐妄、信奉受造之物、而不景仰造化之主。

反抗基督、妄自尊大、目中不復有所謂天主或可敬者、彼且坐於天主聖殿、而自炫其為天主焉。

蓋斯世之君、已矇不信者之心、以致基督榮耀福音之真光、亦無由照入；而基督固天主之肖影也。蓋吾人決不作自我宣傳、惟知宣揚吾主耶穌基督；而吾人則因耶穌之故、而充爾等之僕人者耳。夫天主昔嘗作光於黑暗之中矣、今乃照耀於吾人之心中、俾吾人得藉基督耶穌之聖容、而洞識天主之光榮。

爾應恆念昔時爾本與基督相隔、處於義塞社會之外、於盟約恩諾為局外人、在世無所仰望、不識天主。
