For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription:‘ To the unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.

因為我邊走邊觀察你們所敬拜的，發現一座祭壇上刻著『獻給不認識的神』；那麼，我把你們所不認識而敬拜的這一位，現在傳講給你們。

適遊行時、觀爾所拜者、遇一壇、書曰、未識之神、爾所未識而崇拜者、我明告爾、

我方行遊、見爾所拜、遇一壇、書曰、未識之上帝、爾所未識而崇奉者、我為爾告之、

我適遊行、欲觀爾所崇拜者、遇一祭壇、上刻曰、未識之主、爾所未識而崇拜者、今我告爾、

蓋吾嘗閒步街頭、一覽爾所崇拜之對象、偶值一壇、上書「獻於未識之神。」茲吾欲揭示於爾者、正爾所未識而敬事者也。

For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship— and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods.But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more?

And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,

in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”

For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.

O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me.

Jesus answered,“ If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say,‘ He is our God.’

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth— as indeed there are many“ gods” and many“ lords”—

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.

He has not dealt thus with any other nation; they do not know his rules. Praise the Lord!

To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.Claiming to be wise, they became fools,and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.

In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.For God, who said,“ Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
