Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said:“ People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious.

So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said:“ Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious.

Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said,[ Ye] men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

So Paul stood before the Areopagus and said,“ Men of Athens, I see that you are very religious in all respects.

Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus, and said,“ You men of Athens, I perceive that you are very religious in all things.

Instead they had some disagreements with him about their own religion and about a certain Jesus, a dead man Paul claimed to be alive.

When the city clerk had calmed the crowd down, he said,“ People of Ephesus! What person is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is the temple guardian of the great Artemis, and of the image that fell from heaven?

A drought will come on her waters, and they will be dried up. For it is a land of carved images, and they go mad because of terrifying things.

This is what the LORD says: Do not learn the way of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, although the nations are terrified by them,for the customs of the peoples are worthless. Someone cuts down a tree from the forest; it is worked by the hands of a craftsman with a chisel.

While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply distressed when he saw that the city was full of idols.
