In my law I wrote down many things for their good. But they considered those things as something strange.

Ungodly people are surprised that you no longer join them in what they do. They want you to join them in their wild and wasteful living. So they say bad things about you.

But we preach about Christ and his death on the cross. That is very hard for Jews to accept. And everyone else thinks it’s foolish.

The message of the cross seems foolish to those who are lost and dying. But it is God’s power to us who are being saved.

Peter was wondering what the vision meant. At that very moment the men sent by Cornelius found Simon’s house. They stopped at the gate

Jesus’ disciples heard this. Many of them said,“ This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”

They were amazed and bewildered. They asked one another,“ What does this mean?”

We have a lot to say about this. But it is hard to make it clear to you. That’s because you are no longer trying to understand.

So they kept the matter to themselves. But they asked each other what“ rising from the dead” meant.

The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again,“ Children, how hard it is to enter God’s kingdom!Is it hard for a camel to go through the eye of a needle? It is even harder for someone who is rich to enter God’s kingdom!”The disciples were even more amazed. They said to each other,“ Then who can be saved?”

The Jews said to one another,“ Where does this man plan to go? Does he think we can’t find him? Will he go where our people live scattered among the Greeks? Will he go there to teach the Greeks?What did he mean when he said,‘ You will look for me, but you won’t find me’? And what did he mean when he said,‘ You can’t come where I am going’?”

Then Jesus said to his disciples,“ What I’m about to tell you is true. It is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.Again I tell you, it is hard for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. But it is even harder for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”When the disciples heard this, they were really amazed. They asked,“ Then who can be saved?”

The person without the Spirit doesn’t accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. These things are foolish to them. They can’t understand them. In fact, such things can’t be understood without the Spirit’s help.
