Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said,“ What does this babbler want to say?” Others said,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,” because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.

Then also, some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers argued with him. Some said,“ What is this pseudo-intellectual trying to say?” Others replied,“ He seems to be a preacher of foreign deities”— because he was telling the good news about Jesus and the Resurrection.

Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

angry because they were teaching the people and announcing in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.

Where is the wise man? Where is the expert in the Mosaic law? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made the wisdom of the world foolish?For since in the wisdom of God the world by its wisdom did not know God, God was pleased to save those who believe by the foolishness of preaching.

For this reason Christ died and returned to life, so that he may be the Lord of both the dead and the living.But you who eat vegetables only– why do you judge your brother or sister? And you who eat everything– why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.

Guard against self- deception, each of you. If someone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become foolish so that he can become wise.

Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you through an empty, deceitful philosophy that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

For I passed on to you as of first importance what I also received– that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures,and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures,

When they came to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and experts in the law arguing with them.

We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, we are dishonored!

When he went out from there, the experts in the law and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly, and to ask him hostile questions about many things,

Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools

Do not speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.

But some men from the Synagogue of the Freedmen( as it was called), both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, as well as some from Cilicia and the province of Asia, stood up and argued with Stephen.

because he has set a day on which he is going to judge the world in righteousness, by a man whom he designated, having provided proof to everyone by raising him from the dead.”Now when they heard about the resurrection from the dead, some began to scoff, but others said,“ We will hear you again about this.”

Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
