A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to debate with him. Some of them asked,“ What is this babbler trying to say?” Others remarked,“ He seems to be advocating foreign gods.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.

Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also debated with him. Some said,“ What is this ignorant show-off trying to say?” Others replied,“ He seems to be a preacher of foreign deities”— because he was telling the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.

And some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers as well were conversing with him. Some were saying,“ What could this scavenger of tidbits want to say?” Others,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,”— because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.

Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said,“ What does this babbler want to say?” Others said,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,” because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.

And certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.

because they were provoked that they were teaching the people and proclaiming the resurrection from the dead, using Jesus as the example.

Where is the philosopher? Where is the scholar? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn’t God made the world’s wisdom foolish?For since, in God’s wisdom, the world did not know God through wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of the message preached.

Christ died and came to life for this: that He might rule over both the dead and the living.But you, why do you criticize your brother? Or you, why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before the tribunal of God.

No one should deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age, he must become foolish so that he can become wise.

Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elemental forces of the world, and not based on Christ.

For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

When they came to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and scribes disputing with them.

We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!

When He left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose Him fiercely and to cross-examine Him about many things;

Claiming to be wise, they became fools

Don’t speak to a fool, for he will despise the insight of your words.

because He has set a day when He is going to judge the world in righteousness by the Man He has appointed. He has provided proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.”When they heard about resurrection of the dead, some began to ridicule him. But others said,“ We’d like to hear from you again about this.”

Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
