有一個賣紫色布的婦人，名叫呂底亞，是推雅推喇城的人，素來敬拜神。她在聽着，主就開導她的心，使她留心聽保羅所講的話。

於是差派我們在基督福音上作神同工的弟兄提摩太前去，在你們所信的道上堅固你們，勸勉你們，免得有人被這些患難動搖。因為你們自己知道，我們受患難原是命定的。

堅固門徒的心，勸他們持守他們的信仰，說：「我們進入神的國，必須經歷許多艱難。」

我們處處受困，卻不被捆住；內心困擾，卻沒有絕望；遭受迫害，卻不被撇棄；擊倒在地，卻不致滅亡。我們身上常帶着耶穌的死，使耶穌的生也在我們身上顯明。因為我們這活着的人常為耶穌被置於死地，使耶穌的生命在我們這必死的人身上顯明出來。這樣看來，死是在我們身上運作，生卻在你們身上運作。

所以，我們不喪膽。雖然我們外在的人日漸朽壞，內在的人卻日日更新。我們這短暫而輕微的苦楚要為我們成就極重、無比、永遠的榮耀。因為我們不是顧念看得見的，而是顧念看不見的；原來看得見的是暫時的，看不見的才是永遠的。

願頌讚歸於神－我們主耶穌基督的父；他是發慈悲的父，賜各樣安慰的神。我們在一切患難中，他安慰我們，使我們能用神所賜的安慰去安慰那些遭各樣患難的人。正如我們跟基督同受許多苦楚，我們也靠基督得許多安慰。如果我們受患難，那是為使你們得安慰，得拯救；如果我們得安慰，那也是為使你們得安慰，這安慰能使你們忍受我們所受同樣的苦楚。我們為你們所存的盼望是確定的，因為知道你們分擔了我們的痛苦，也要分享我們的安慰。

他明白了，就到那稱為馬可的約翰的母親馬利亞家去，在那裏已有好些人聚集禱告。彼得敲外門時，有一個使女，名叫羅大，出來應門，認出是彼得的聲音，歡喜得顧不了開門，就跑進去報信，說彼得站在門外。他們對她說：「你瘋了！」使女堅持真有其事。他們說：「那是他的天使。」彼得不停地敲門；他們開了門，一見是他，就很驚奇。彼得做個手勢，要他們不作聲，就告訴他們主怎樣領他出監；又說：「你們要把這些事告訴雅各和眾弟兄。」然後，他離開往別處去了。

路司得和以哥念的弟兄都稱讚他。
