有個生在塞浦路斯的利未人名叫約瑟，使徒叫他巴拿巴，意思是勸慰者。

因為我們在許多方面難免有過失。如果誰在言語上沒有過失，他就是純全的人，也能在各方面保持自制。

誠然，在地上無法找到一個一生行善、從未犯罪的義人。

我也知道，在我的罪惡本性裡面毫無良善，我有行善的心願，卻沒有行善的力量。我想行善，卻不能行；我不想作惡，反倒去作。如果我不想做的，我反倒去做，這就不是我自己做的，而是住在我裡面的罪做的。因此，我發現一個律：我想行善的時候，惡就不放過我。

二人受聖靈差遣，下到西流基，從那裡乘船去塞浦路斯。他們到了撒拉米，就在當地的猶太會堂傳講上帝的道。約翰·馬可作他們的助手。他們走遍全島，遠至帕弗，在那裡遇見一個冒充先知的猶太術士巴·耶穌。這人和當地的士求·保羅總督常有來往。士求·保羅是個聰明人，他邀請了巴拿巴和掃羅來，要聽上帝的道。但希臘名字叫以呂馬的那個術士反對使徒，試圖攔阻總督信主。又名保羅的掃羅被聖靈充滿，盯著他說：「你這魔鬼的兒子，充滿了詭詐和邪惡，是一切正義之敵，到現在還想歪曲主的正道嗎？現在主要親手懲罰你，使你瞎眼，暫時不見天日！」他頓覺眼前一片漆黑，只好四處摸索，求人領他走路。總督看見所發生的事，對主的道感到驚奇，就信了。

不過，有些塞浦路斯和古利奈的信徒到了安提阿之後，也向希臘人傳講主耶穌的福音。

那時，門徒的人數與日俱增。當中有些講希臘話的猶太人埋怨講希伯來話的猶太人，說對方在日常分配食物的事上怠慢了他們的寡婦。

保羅和巴拿巴為這件事與他們激烈地辯論，最後大家決定派保羅、巴拿巴和幾個當地的信徒上耶路撒冷去跟使徒和長老討論這件事。

我們從那裡啟航後，由於遇到逆風，便沿著塞浦路斯的背風岸前行，

我看到萬事都有盡頭，唯有你的命令無邊無界。

因為他們惹摩西發怒，以致他說了魯莽的話。
