This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question.

Both the apostles and the elders met together to deliberate about this matter.After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them,“ Brothers, you know that some time ago God chose me to preach to the Gentiles so they would hear the message of the gospel and believe.

When they arrived in Jerusalem, they were received by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they reported all the things God had done with them.

They did so, sending their financial aid to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

Then after fourteen years I went up to Jerusalem again with Barnabas, taking Titus along too.I went there because of a revelation and presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. But I did so only in a private meeting with the influential people, to make sure that I was not running– or had not run– in vain.

For since I am free from all I can make myself a slave to all, in order to gain even more people.To the Jews I became like a Jew to gain the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law( though I myself am not under the law) to gain those under the law.To those free from the law I became like one free from the law( though I am not free from God’s law but under the law of Christ) to gain those free from the law.To the weak I became weak in order to gain the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that by all means I may save some.I do all these things because of the gospel, so that I can be a participant in it.

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are following a different gospel–not that there really is another gospel, but there are some who are disturbing you and wanting to distort the gospel of Christ.But even if we( or an angel from heaven) should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be condemned to hell!As we have said before, and now I say again, if any one is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let him be condemned to hell!Am I now trying to gain the approval of people, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ!

So, although I have quite a lot of confidence in Christ and could command you to do what is proper,I would rather appeal to you on the basis of love– I, Paul, an old man and even now a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus–

As they went through the towns, they passed on the decrees that had been decided on by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the Gentile believers to obey.

Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas who will tell you these things themselves in person.

The Spirit told me to accompany them without hesitation. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house.

If you do this thing, and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all these people will be able to go home satisfied.”

For I consider myself not at all inferior to those“ super- apostles.”

we have unanimously decided to choose men to send to you along with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul,

So Peter invited them in and entertained them as guests. On the next day he got up and set out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.

Dear friends, although I have been eager to write to you about our common salvation, I now feel compelled instead to write to encourage you to contend earnestly for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.

The next day Paul went in with us to see James, and all the elders were there.

But we did not surrender to them even for a moment, in order that the truth of the gospel would remain with you.
