and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good tidings, that ye should turn from these vain things unto a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is:

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

Are there any among the idols of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are You not He, O Lord our God? Therefore we will wait for You, Since You have made all these.

Therefore concerning the eating of things offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

saying with a loud voice,“ Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”

For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

They have provoked Me to jealousy by what is not God; They have moved Me to anger by their foolish idols. But I will provoke them to jealousy by those who are not a nation; I will move them to anger by a foolish nation.

So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said:“ Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them,

Simon Peter answered and said,“ You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

for all the sins of Baasha and the sins of Elah his son, by which they had sinned and by which they had made Israel sin, in provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their idols.

but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

I have hated those who regard useless idols; But I trust in the Lord.

I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth.When there were no depths I was brought forth, When there were no fountains abounding with water.Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills, I was brought forth;While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, Or the primal dust of the world.When He prepared the heavens, I was there, When He drew a circle on the face of the deep,When He established the clouds above, When He strengthened the fountains of the deep,When He assigned to the sea its limit, So that the waters would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth,Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him,Rejoicing in His inhabited world, And my delight was with the sons of men.

The burden of the word of the Lord against Israel. Thus says the Lord, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him:

“ Assemble yourselves and come; Draw near together, You who have escaped from the nations. They have no knowledge, Who carry the wood of their carved image, And pray to a god that cannot save.

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.Professing to be wise, they became fools,and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man— and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

Those who make an image, all of them are useless, And their precious things shall not profit; They are their own witnesses; They neither see nor know, that they may be ashamed.Who would form a god or mold an image That profits him nothing?

But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, were these:As for you, O king, thoughts came to your mind while on your bed, about what would come to pass after this; and He who reveals secrets has made known to you what will be.But as for me, this secret has not been revealed to me because I have more wisdom than anyone living, but for our sakes who make known the interpretation to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your heart.

And he brought them out and said,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

It may be that the Lord your God will hear all the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to reproach the living God, and will rebuke the words which the Lord your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”

They bear it on the shoulder, they carry it And set it in its place, and it stands; From its place it shall not move. Though one cries out to it, yet it cannot answer Nor save him out of his trouble.

For the customs of the peoples are futile; For one cuts a tree from the forest, The work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.They decorate it with silver and gold; They fasten it with nails and hammers So that it will not topple.They are upright, like a palm tree, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot go by themselves. Do not be afraid of them, For they cannot do evil, Nor can they do any good.”

‘ Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.

Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying,“ What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols.Therefore he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there.Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.

Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;

For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself,

Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the Lord his God,Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever,

But after long abstinence from food, then Paul stood in the midst of them and said,“ Men, you should have listened to me, and not have sailed from Crete and incurred this disaster and loss.

Then he said to me,“ See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”

And they were preaching the gospel there.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.

And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch,

Everyone is dull-hearted, without knowledge; Every metalsmith is put to shame by an image; For his molded image is falsehood, And there is no breath in them.They are futile, a work of errors; In the time of their punishment they shall perish.

And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me,“ See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

And no one considers in his heart, Nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say,“ I have burned half of it in the fire, Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals; I have roasted meat and eaten it; And shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?”He feeds on ashes; A deceived heart has turned him aside; And he cannot deliver his soul, Nor say,“ Is there not a lie in my right hand?”

God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said,‘ For we are also His offspring.’Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising.Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,

For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people:“ Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go.

I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you,to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’“ Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.

And the people kept shouting,“ The voice of a god and not of a man!”Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.
