and saying,“ Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men, of the same nature as you, preaching the gospel to you, to turn from these useless things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything that is in them.

『諸君、胡為出此、吾亦猶人、稟性與爾無異；傳爾福音、正欲使爾棄絕此等荒謬之事、而歸心於手創天地瀛海萬有之天主。

“ Friends, why are you doing this? We are merely human beings— just like you! We have come to bring you the Good News that you should turn from these worthless things and turn to the living God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.

“ People! Why are you doing these things? We are people also, just like you, and we are proclaiming good news to you, that you turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything in them.

“ Men, why are you doing these things? We too are men, with human natures just like you! We are proclaiming the good news to you, so that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything that is in them.

“ Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to the living God, who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them;

But Peter helped him up, saying,“ Stand up; I, too, am just a man.”

Indeed, you must not turn aside, for then you would go after useless things which cannot benefit or save, because they are useless.

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.

Are there any among the idols of the nations who give rain? Or can the heavens grant showers? Is it not You, Lord our God? Therefore we wait for You, For You are the one who has done all these things.

Therefore, concerning the eating of food sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one.

and he said with a loud voice,“ Fear God and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who made the heaven and the earth, and sea and springs of waters.”

For they themselves report about us as to the kind of reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God,

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

They have made Me jealous with what is not God; They have provoked Me to anger with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation,

And when they heard this, they raised their voices to God with one mind and said,“ Lord, it is You who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything that is in them,

Simon Peter answered,“ You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Those who are followers of worthless idols Abandon their faithfulness,

Joseph then answered Pharaoh, saying,“ It has nothing to do with me; God will give Pharaoh an answer for his own good.”

And on the following day he appeared to them as they were fighting each other, and he tried to reconcile them to peace, by saying,‘ Men, you are brothers, why are you injuring each other?’

And we preach to you the good news of the promise made to the fathers,

The one who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

for all the sins of Baasha and the sins of his son Elah, which they committed and into which they misled Israel, provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their idols.

but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one should act in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

I hate those who devote themselves to worthless idols, But I trust in the Lord.

From eternity I was established, From the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth.When there were no ocean depths, I was born, When there were no springs abounding with water.Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills, I was born;While He had not yet made the earth and the fields, Nor the first dust of the world.When He established the heavens, I was there; When He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep,When He made firm the skies above, When the springs of the deep became fixed,When He set a boundary for the sea So that the water would not violate His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth;Then I was beside Him, as a master workman; And I was His delight daily, Rejoicing always before Him,Rejoicing in the world, His earth, And having my delight in the sons of mankind.

The pronouncement of the word of the Lord concerning Israel: The Lord who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of a person within him, declares:

So I say this, and affirm in the Lord, that you are to no longer walk just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their minds,

For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and everything that is in them, and He rested on the seventh day; for that reason the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Therefore, keep up your courage, men, for I believe God that it will turn out exactly as I have been told.

But they are altogether stupid and foolish; The instruction from idols is nothing but wood!

Behold, listen! The cry of the daughter of my people from a distant land:“ Is the Lord not in Zion? Is her King not within her?”“ Why have they provoked Me with their carved images, with foreign idols?”

Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.”

“ Gather yourselves and come; Come together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge, Who carry around their wooden idol And pray to a god who cannot save.

And Joshua said,“ By this you will know that the living God is among you, and that He will assuredly drive out from you the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, and the Jebusite.

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse.For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened.Claiming to be wise, they became fools,and they exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible mankind, of birds, four footed animals, and crawling creatures.

Those who fashion an idol are all futile, and their treasured things are of no benefit; even their own witnesses fail to see or know, so that they will be put to shame.Who has fashioned a god or cast an idol to no benefit?

However, there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will take place in the latter days. This was your dream and the visions in your mind while on your bed.As for you, O king, while on your bed your thoughts turned to what would take place in the future; and He who reveals secrets has made known to you what will take place.But as for me, this secret has not been revealed to me for any wisdom residing in me more than in any other living person, but for the purpose of making the interpretation known to the king, and that you may understand the thoughts of your mind.

and after he brought them out, he said,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

Perhaps the Lord your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to taunt the living God, and will avenge the words which the Lord your God has heard. Therefore, offer a prayer for the remnant that is left.’ ”

They lift it on the shoulder, carry it, And set it in its place, and it stands there. It does not move from its place. Though one may shout to it, it cannot answer; It cannot save him from his distress.

For the customs of the peoples are futile; For it is wood cut from the forest, The work of the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool.They decorate the idol with silver and gold; They fasten it with nails and hammers So that it will not totter.They are like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot walk! Do not fear them, For they can do no harm, Nor can they do any good.”

‘ Oh, Lord God! Behold, You Yourself have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You,

Then David said to the men who were standing by him,“ What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and rids Israel of the disgrace? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he has dared to defy the armies of the living God?”

I issue a decree that in all the realm of my kingdom people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel; For He is the living God and enduring forever, And His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed, And His dominion will be forever.

saying to them,“ Men, I perceive that the voyage will certainly be with damage and great loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.”

For this is what the Lord says, He who created the heavens( He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it as a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited):“ I am the Lord, and there is no one else.

Incline Your ear, Lord, and hear; open Your eyes, Lord, and see; and listen to the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to taunt the living God.

But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. The earth quakes at His wrath, And the nations cannot endure His indignation.This is what you shall say to them:“ The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under these heavens.”

Now while Paul was waiting for them in Athens, his spirit was being provoked within him as he observed that the city was full of idols.So he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the God fearing Gentiles, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be present.And some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers as well were conversing with him. Some were saying,“ What could this scavenger of tidbits want to say?” Others,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,”— because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their lights.

Take care, brothers and sisters, that there will not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.

For just as the Father has life in Himself, so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, Whose hope is in the Lord his God,Who made heaven and earth, The sea and everything that is in them; Who keeps faith forever;

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they rejected the Law of the Lord And have not kept His statutes; Their lies also have led them astray, Those which their fathers followed.

When many had lost their appetites, Paul then stood among them and said,“ Men, you should have followed my advice and not have set sail from Crete, and thereby spared yourselves this damage and loss.

And he* said to me,“ Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brothers the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!”

and there they continued to preach the gospel.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse, and against His army.

And after they had preached the gospel to that city and had made a good number of disciples, they returned to Lystra, to Iconium, and to Antioch,

Every person is stupid, devoid of knowledge; Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, For his cast metal images are deceitful, And there is no breath in them.They are worthless, a work of mockery; At the time of their punishment they will perish.

Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he* said to me,“ Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brothers and sisters who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

No one remembers, nor is there knowledge or understanding to say,“ I have burned half of it in the fire and also have baked bread over its coals. I roast meat and eat it. Then I make the rest of it into an abomination, I bow down before a block of wood!”He feeds on ashes; a deceived heart has misled him. And he cannot save himself, nor say,“ Is there not a lie in my right hand?”

The God who made the world and everything that is in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made by hands;nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things;and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation,that they would seek God, if perhaps they might feel around for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said,‘ For we also are His descendants.’Therefore, since we are the descendants of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by human skill and thought.So having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now proclaiming to mankind that all people everywhere are to repent,

For who is there of humanity who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

But when Peter saw this, he replied to the people,“ Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this, or why are you staring at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him walk?The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, the one whom you handed over and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.

rescuing you from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you,to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’“ For that reason, King Agrippa, I did not prove disobedient to the heavenly vision,but continually proclaimed to those in Damascus first, and in Jerusalem, and then all the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they are to repent and turn to God, performing deeds consistent with repentance.

The people repeatedly cried out,“ The voice of a god and not of a man!”And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died.
