『諸君、胡為出此、吾亦猶人、稟性與爾無異；傳爾福音、正欲使爾棄絕此等荒謬之事、而歸心於手創天地瀛海萬有之天主。

and saying,“ Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men, of the same nature as you, preaching the gospel to you, to turn from these useless things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything that is in them.

and saying,“ Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them,

and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good tidings, that ye should turn from these vain things unto a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is:

And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

“ Men, why are you doing these things? We too are men, with human natures just like you! We are proclaiming the good news to you, so that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything that is in them.

“ Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to the living God, who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them;

But Peter lifted him up and said,“ Stand up. I myself am also a man.”

Don’t turn away to follow worthless things that can’t profit or rescue you; they are worthless.

Elijah was a human being as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the land.

Can any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Or can the skies alone give showers? Are you not the LORD our God? We therefore put our hope in you, for you have done all these things.

About eating food sacrificed to idols, then, we know that“ an idol is nothing in the world,” and that“ there is no God but one.”

He spoke with a loud voice:“ Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship the one who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

for they themselves report what kind of reception we had from you: how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

They have provoked my jealousy with what is not a god; they have enraged me with their worthless idols. So I will provoke their jealousy with what is not a people; I will enrage them with a foolish nation.

When they heard this, they raised their voices together to God and said,“ Master, you are the one who made the heaven, the earth, and the sea, and everything in them.

Simon Peter answered,“ You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Those who cherish worthless idols abandon their faithful love,

“ I am not able to,” Joseph answered Pharaoh.“ It is God who will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.”

The next day he showed up while they were fighting and tried to reconcile them peacefully, saying,‘ Men, you are brothers. Why are you mistreating each other?’

And we ourselves proclaim to you the good news of the promise that was made to our ancestors.

The one who speaks on his own seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

This happened because of all the sins of Baasha and those of his son Elah, which they committed and caused Israel to commit, angering the LORD God of Israel with their worthless idols.

But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

I hate those who are devoted to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.

I was formed before ancient times, from the beginning, before the earth began.I was born when there were no watery depths and no springs filled with water.Before the mountains were established, prior to the hills, I was given birth—before he made the land, the fields, or the first soil on earth.I was there when he established the heavens, when he laid out the horizon on the surface of the ocean,when he placed the skies above, when the fountains of the ocean gushed out,when he set a limit for the sea so that the waters would not violate his command, when he laid out the foundations of the earth.I was a skilled craftsman beside him. I was his delight every day, always rejoicing before him.I was rejoicing in his inhabited world, delighting in the children of Adam.

A pronouncement: The word of the LORD concerning Israel. A declaration of the LORD, who stretched out the heavens, laid the foundation of the earth, and formed the spirit of man within him.

Therefore, I say this and testify in the Lord: You should no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thoughts.

So take courage, men, because I believe God that it will be just the way it was told to me.

They are both stupid and foolish, instructed by worthless idols made of wood!

Listen— the cry of my dear people from a faraway land,“ Is the LORD no longer in Zion, her King not within her?” Why have they angered me with their carved images, with their worthless foreign idols?

Your servant has killed lions and bears; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.”

“ Come, gather together, and approach, you fugitives of the nations. Those who carry their wooden idols and pray to a god who cannot save have no knowledge.

He said,“ You will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly dispossess before you the Canaanites, Hethites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites

For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. As a result, people are without excuse.For though they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became worthless, and their senseless hearts were darkened.Claiming to be wise, they became foolsand exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles.

All who make idols are nothing, and what they treasure benefits no one. Their witnesses do not see or know anything, so they will be put to shame.Who makes a god or casts a metal image that benefits no one?

But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has let King Nebuchadnezzar know what will happen in the last days. Your dream and the visions that came into your mind as you lay in bed were these:Your Majesty, while you were in your bed, thoughts came to your mind about what will happen in the future. The revealer of mysteries has let you know what will happen.As for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because I have more wisdom than anyone living, but in order that the interpretation might be made known to the king, and that you may understand the thoughts of your mind.

He escorted them out and said,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

Perhaps the LORD your God will hear all the words of the royal spokesman, whom his master the king of Assyria sent to mock the living God, and will rebuke him for the words that the LORD your God has heard. Therefore, offer a prayer for the surviving remnant.’”

They lift it to their shoulder and bear it along; they set it in its place, and there it stands; it does not budge from its place. They cry out to it but it doesn’t answer; it saves no one from his trouble.

for the customs of the peoples are worthless. Someone cuts down a tree from the forest; it is worked by the hands of a craftsman with a chisel.He decorates it with silver and gold. It is fastened with hammer and nails, so it won’t totter.Like scarecrows in a cucumber patch, their idols cannot speak. They must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them for they can do no harm— and they cannot do any good.

Oh, Lord GOD! You yourself made the heavens and earth by your great power and with your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for you!

David spoke to the men who were standing with him:“ What will be done for the man who kills that Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Just who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

and told them,“ Men, I can see that this voyage is headed toward disaster and heavy loss, not only of the cargo and the ship but also of our lives.”

For this is what the LORD says— the Creator of the heavens, the God who formed the earth and made it, the one who established it( he did not create it to be a wasteland, but formed it to be inhabited)— he says,“ I am the LORD, and there is no other.

Listen closely, LORD, and hear; open your eyes, LORD, and see. Hear the words that Sennacherib has sent to mock the living God.

But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God and eternal King. The earth quakes at his wrath, and the nations cannot endure his fury.You are to say this to them:“ The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under these heavens.”

While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply distressed when he saw that the city was full of idols.So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with those who worshiped God, as well as in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there.Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also debated with him. Some said,“ What is this ignorant show-off trying to say?” Others replied,“ He seems to be a preacher of foreign deities”— because he was telling the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.

The heavens were made by the word of the LORD, and all the stars, by the breath of his mouth.

Watch out, brothers and sisters, so that there won’t be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.

For just as the Father has life in himself, so also he has granted to the Son to have life in himself.

Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them. He remains faithful forever,

The LORD says: I will not relent from punishing Judah for three crimes, even four, because they have rejected the instruction of the LORD and have not kept his statutes. The lies that their ancestors followed have led them astray.

Since they had been without food for a long time, Paul then stood up among them and said,“ You men should have followed my advice not to sail from Crete and sustain this damage and loss.

But he said to me,“ Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you, your brothers the prophets, and those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!”

There they continued preaching the gospel.

Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

After they had preached the gospel in that town and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, to Iconium, and to Antioch,

Everyone is stupid and ignorant. Every goldsmith is put to shame by his carved image, for his cast images are a lie; there is no breath in them.They are worthless, a work to be mocked. At the time of their punishment they will be destroyed.

Then I fell at his feet to worship him, but he said to me,“ Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers and sisters who hold firmly to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God, because the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

No one comes to his senses; no one has the perception or insight to say,“ I burned half of it in the fire, I also baked bread on its coals, I roasted meat and ate. Should I make something detestable with the rest of it? Should I bow down to a block of wood?”He feeds on ashes. His deceived mind has led him astray, and he cannot rescue himself, or say,“ Isn’t there a lie in my right hand?”

The God who made the world and everything in it— he is Lord of heaven and earth— does not live in shrines made by hands.Neither is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives everyone life and breath and all things.From one man he has made every nationality to live over the whole earth and has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of where they live.He did this so that they might seek God, and perhaps they might reach out and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.For in him we live and move and have our being, as even some of your own poets have said,‘ For we are also his offspring.’Since, then, we are God’s offspring, we shouldn’t think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image fashioned by human art and imagination.“ Therefore, having overlooked the times of ignorance, God now commands all people everywhere to repent,

For who out of all humanity has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the fire, as we have, and lived?

When Peter saw this, he addressed the people:“ Fellow Israelites, why are you amazed at this? Why do you stare at us, as though we had made him walk by our own power or godliness?The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our ancestors, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied before Pilate, though he had decided to release him.

I will rescue you from your people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to themto open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’“ So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision.Instead, I preached to those in Damascus first, and to those in Jerusalem and in all the region of Judea, and to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy of repentance.

The assembled people began to shout,“ It’s the voice of a god and not of a man!”At once an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died.
