大祭司就撕開衣服，說：“他說了褻瀆的話，我們還要甚麼證人呢？你們現在聽見了這褻瀆的話，

當時王宮總管希勒家的兒子以利亞敬、書記舍伯那和亞薩的兒子史官約亞來到希西家那裡，他們的衣服都撕裂了，他們把拉伯沙基的話都告訴了他。希西家王聽見了，就把自己的衣服撕裂，披上麻布，來到耶和華的殿。王又派王宮總管以利亞敬、書記舍伯那和祭司中的長老披上麻布，到亞摩斯的兒子以賽亞先知那裡。

我一聽見這事，就撕裂我的衣服和外袍，拔掉頭上的頭髮和鬍鬚，驚懼地坐著。所有因著以色列神針對被擄歸回的人之不忠、對他們所說的話而戰兢的人，都聚集到我面前。我驚懼地坐著，直到獻晚祭的時候。“獻晚祭的時候，我在禁食中起來，穿著撕裂了的衣服和外袍，雙膝跪下，向耶和華我的神張開雙手，

城裡眾人就分裂了，有的附從猶太人，也有的附從使徒。

難道我們沒有權利，像其餘的使徒、主的弟兄和磯法一樣，帶著信主的妻子往來嗎？難道只有我和巴拿巴沒有權利不作工嗎？

王和他所有聽見這一切話的臣僕，都不驚懼，也不撕裂衣服。

大祭司就撕開自己的衣服，說：“我們還要甚麼證人呢？

以色列王讀了這信後，就撕裂自己的衣服，說：“我是神，能使人死使人活嗎？這人竟派人到我這裡來，要我治好他的痲風。請你們想想看，他是要找機會攻擊我。”
