亚玛谢对阿摩司说：“你这个先见，走吧！滚回犹大地去；在那里你可以找食，在那里你可以说预言。

我亲爱的弟兄们，请听：神不是拣选了在世上被认为贫穷的人吗？这些人却在信心上富足，而且是承受神的国的人。这国是神应许赐给爱他的人的。然而你们却侮辱穷人。其实，那些欺压你们，拉你们上法庭的，不就是富足的人吗？

又煽动民众、长老、经学家，这些人就来捉拿他，把他带到公议会，

那时住在耶路撒冷的，有从天下各国来的虔诚的犹太人。

我可以为他们作证，他们对神有热心，但不是按着真见识；

因耶和华的话而战兢的人哪！你们要听他的话。他说：“你们的兄弟，就是那些憎恨你们、因我的名赶走你们的，曾说：‘愿耶和华得荣耀；让我们看见你们的喜乐。’他们却要蒙羞。

如果有人在这城迫害你们，就逃到别的城去。我实在告诉你们，你们还没有走遍以色列的各城，人子就来到了。

保罗对他们说：“我们是罗马人，还没有定罪，他们就公开打我们，又放在监里；现在要私下赶我们出去吗？不行！他们应当亲自来，领我们出去！”法警把这番话回报裁判官，裁判官听说他们是罗马人，就害怕起来，于是来请求他们，领他们出监之后，就请他们离开那城。

弟兄们，你们想想，你们这些蒙召的，按人（“人”或译：“世上的标准”、“世界的标准”）来看有智慧的不多，有权势的不多，出身尊贵的也不多。但是神却拣选了世上愚笨的，使那些有智慧的羞愧。他也拣选了世上软弱的，使那些刚强的羞愧。他也拣选了世上卑贱的和被人轻视的，以及算不得什么的，为了要废弃那些自以为是的，使所有的人在神面前都不能自夸。

他们就要求耶稣离开他们的地区。

这些犹太人杀了主耶稣和众先知，又把我们赶出来。他们得不到神的喜悦，并且和所有的人作对，阻挠我们向外族人传道，不让他们得救，以致恶贯满盈。神的忿怒终必临到他们身上。

司提反被害，扫罗也欣然同意。从那天起，耶路撒冷的教会大受迫害；除了使徒以外，所有的人都分散到犹太和撒玛利亚各地。
