當七日的潔淨期將滿的時候，有些從亞細亞來的猶太人發現保羅在聖殿裡，就煽動眾人去抓他。

許多猶太人和誠心改信猶太教的外族人都跟隨保羅和巴拿巴，二人就與他們談論，勸勉他們要堅定不移地信靠上帝的恩典。

亞瑪謝對我說：「先見啊，走吧！逃回猶大去吧！你要在那裡掙吃的，在那裡說預言。

我親愛的弟兄姊妹，請聽我說，上帝不是揀選了窮人，使他們在信心上富足，並承受祂應許賜給那些愛祂之人的國度嗎？你們反倒侮辱窮人。其實欺壓你們、抓你們上法庭的不是那些富人嗎？

又煽動百姓、長老和律法教師抓住司提凡，把他押到公會。

當時耶路撒冷住著從各國回來的虔誠的猶太人。

我可以證明，他們對上帝有熱心，但不是基於真知。

從來沒有人像亞哈那樣受妻子耶洗別唆使，一心做耶和華視為惡的事。

對耶和華的話心存敬畏的人啊，要聽祂的話：「你們的弟兄憎恨你們，因為我的緣故而棄絕你們，他們譏諷說，『願耶和華得榮耀，我們好看看你們的歡樂！』他們必受羞辱。

如果你們在一個地方遭迫害，就避到另一個地方。我實在告訴你們，沒等你們走遍以色列的城鎮，人子就來了。

保羅卻說：「我們是羅馬公民，他們不經審訊就當眾打我們，又把我們關進牢裡，現在卻想偷偷打發掉我們嗎？這樣不行，叫他們親自來領我們出去！」差役回報官長。官長得知保羅和西拉都是羅馬公民，非常害怕，連忙到獄中向他們道歉，領他們出監，又央求他們離開腓立比。

弟兄姊妹，想想你們蒙召時的情形。按人的標準來衡量，你們當中稱得上有智慧的不多，有能力的不多，出身名門望族的也不多。但上帝揀選了世人看為愚昧的，要使智者羞愧；上帝揀選了世上軟弱的，要使強者蒙羞；上帝揀選了世上卑賤的、被藐視的和無足輕重的，要使世人看為舉足輕重的變得無足輕重。這樣，誰都不能在上帝面前自誇了。

他們請耶穌離開他們的地方。

這些猶太人殺死了主耶穌和眾先知，又迫害我們。他們不但冒犯上帝，還與所有的人為敵，阻止我們傳福音給外族人，唯恐他們得救。這些人惡貫滿盈，上帝的烈怒終於臨到了他們頭上。

當時，掃羅也贊成殺死司提凡。從那天起，耶路撒冷的教會開始遭到極大的迫害。除了使徒之外，門徒都分散到猶太和撒瑪利亞各地。
