当七日的洁净期将满的时候，有些从亚细亚来的犹太人发现保罗在圣殿里，就煽动众人去抓他。

许多犹太人和诚心改信犹太教的外族人都跟随保罗和巴拿巴，二人就与他们谈论，劝勉他们要坚定不移地信靠上帝的恩典。

亚玛谢对我说：“先见啊，走吧！逃回犹大去吧！你要在那里挣吃的，在那里说预言。

我亲爱的弟兄姊妹，请听我说，上帝不是拣选了穷人，使他们在信心上富足，并承受祂应许赐给那些爱祂之人的国度吗？你们反倒侮辱穷人。其实欺压你们、抓你们上法庭的不是那些富人吗？

又煽动百姓、长老和律法教师抓住司提凡，把他押到公会。

当时耶路撒冷住着从各国回来的虔诚的犹太人。

如果你们在一个地方遭迫害，就避到另一个地方。我实在告诉你们，没等你们走遍以色列的城镇，人子就来了。

保罗却说：“我们是罗马公民，他们不经审讯就当众打我们，又把我们关进牢里，现在却想偷偷打发掉我们吗？这样不行，叫他们亲自来领我们出去！”差役回报官长。官长得知保罗和西拉都是罗马公民，非常害怕，连忙到狱中向他们道歉，领他们出监，又央求他们离开腓立比。

弟兄姊妹，想想你们蒙召时的情形。按人的标准来衡量，你们当中称得上有智慧的不多，有能力的不多，出身名门望族的也不多。但上帝拣选了世人看为愚昧的，要使智者羞愧；上帝拣选了世上软弱的，要使强者蒙羞；上帝拣选了世上卑贱的、被藐视的和无足轻重的，要使世人看为举足轻重的变得无足轻重。这样，谁都不能在上帝面前自夸了。

他们请耶稣离开他们的地方。

这些犹太人杀死了主耶稣和众先知，又迫害我们。他们不但冒犯上帝，还与所有的人为敌，阻止我们传福音给外族人，唯恐他们得救。这些人恶贯满盈，上帝的烈怒终于临到了他们头上。

当时，扫罗也赞成杀死司提凡。从那天起，耶路撒冷的教会开始遭到极大的迫害。除了使徒之外，门徒都分散到犹太和撒玛利亚各地。
