Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and declared,“ It was necessary that we first preach the word of God to you Jews. But since you have rejected it and judged yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we will offer it to the Gentiles.

Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly:“ We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.

Then Paul and Barnabas boldly said:“ It was necessary that God’s message be spoken to you first. But since you reject it and consider yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles!

Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

Both Paul and Barnabas replied courageously,“ It was necessary to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we are turning to the Gentiles.

Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said,“ It was necessary that God’s word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from yourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

So I want you to know that this salvation from God has also been offered to the Gentiles, and they will accept it.”

I preached first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that all must repent of their sins and turn to God— and prove they have changed by the good things they do.

When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.”

I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation that will produce the proper fruit.

“ But the Lord said to me,‘ Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles!’”

You also will command nations you do not know, and peoples unknown to you will come running to obey, because I, the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, have made you glorious.”

But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good— for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.

And after Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul spent all his time preaching the word. He testified to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah.But when they opposed and insulted him, Paul shook the dust from his clothes and said,“ Your blood is upon your own heads— I am innocent. From now on I will go preach to the Gentiles.”

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes— the Jew first and also the Gentile.

“ Brothers— you sons of Abraham, and also you God fearing Gentiles— this message of salvation has been sent to us!

But I ask, did the people of Israel really understand? Yes, they did, for even in the time of Moses, God said,“ I will rouse your jealousy through people who are not even a nation. I will provoke your anger through the foolish Gentiles.”And later Isaiah spoke boldly for God, saying,“ I was found by people who were not looking for me. I showed myself to those who were not asking for me.”But regarding Israel, God said,“ All day long I opened my arms to them, but they were disobedient and rebellious.”

Jesus replied with this story:“ A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations.When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests,‘ Come, the banquet is ready.’But they all began making excuses. One said,‘ I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.’Another said,‘ I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. Please excuse me.’Another said,‘ I just got married, so I can’t come.’“ The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said,‘ Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’After the servant had done this, he reported,‘ There is still room for more.’So his master said,‘ Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.For none of those I first invited will get even the smallest taste of my banquet.’”

He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.

It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem:‘ There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’

Did God’s people stumble and fall beyond recovery? Of course not! They were disobedient, so God made salvation available to the Gentiles. But he wanted his own people to become jealous and claim it for themselves.Now if the Gentiles were enriched because the people of Israel turned down God’s offer of salvation, think how much greater a blessing the world will share when they finally accept it.I am saying all this especially for you Gentiles. God has appointed me as the apostle to the Gentiles. I stress this,

“ You stubborn people! You are heathen at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit? That’s what your ancestors did, and so do you!

They are the people of Israel, chosen to be God’s adopted children. God revealed his glory to them. He made covenants with them and gave them his law. He gave them the privilege of worshiping him and receiving his wonderful promises.Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are their ancestors, and Christ himself was an Israelite as far as his human nature is concerned. And he is God, the one who rules over everything and is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

Others seized his messengers and insulted them and killed them.“ The king was furious, and he sent out his army to destroy the murderers and burn their town.And he said to his servants,‘ The wedding feast is ready, and the guests I invited aren’t worthy of the honor.Now go out to the street corners and invite everyone you see.’So the servants brought in everyone they could find, good and bad alike, and the banquet hall was filled with guests.

And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word.Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.

They have roused my jealousy by worshiping things that are not God; they have provoked my anger with their useless idols. Now I will rouse their jealousy through people who are not even a people; I will provoke their anger through the foolish Gentiles.

The wicked run away when no one is chasing them, but the godly are as bold as lions.

Then the Lord said,“ I have seen how stubborn and rebellious these people are.Now leave me alone so my fierce anger can blaze against them, and I will destroy them. Then I will make you, Moses, into a great nation.”

And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.

but only to the people of Israel— God’s lost sheep.

If it turns out to be a worthy home, let your blessing stand; if it is not, take back the blessing.If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave.I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day.

And now the Lord speaks— the one who formed me in my mother’s womb to be his servant, who commissioned me to bring Israel back to him. The Lord has honored me, and my God has given me strength.He says,“ You will do more than restore the people of Israel to me. I will make you a light to the Gentiles, and you will bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.”The Lord, the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel, says to the one who is despised and rejected by the nations, to the one who is the servant of rulers:“ Kings will stand at attention when you pass by. Princes will also bow low because of the Lord, the faithful one, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”This is what the Lord says:“ At just the right time, I will respond to you. On the day of salvation I will help you. I will protect you and give you to the people as my covenant with them. Through you I will reestablish the land of Israel and assign it to its own people again.

But Paul and Barnabas traveled inland to Antioch of Pisidia. On the Sabbath they went to the synagogue for the services.

You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews.

quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight.

There, in the town of Salamis, they went to the Jewish synagogues and preached the word of God. John Mark went with them as their assistant.

The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.

And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike.I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should.
