Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

「傲慢不恭者、始見之、繼駭之、終之歸於淪滅。蓋當爾之日、吾之所行、雖有人為爾諄諄、爾亦必聽之藐藐也。』

Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for[ I] will work a work in your days,[ which] ye will not believe, though it be told[ you].

For the time[ is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if[ it] first[ begin] at us, what shall the end[ be] of them that obey not the gospel of God?

What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded( According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but[ rather] through their fall salvation[ is come] unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.Now if the fall of them[ be] the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:If by any means I may provoke to emulation[ them which are] my flesh, and might save some of them.

They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out[ his] vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and[ some] of them ye shall kill and crucify; and[ some] of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute[ them] from city to city:That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.O Jerusalem, Jerusalem,[ thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under[ her] wings, and ye would not!Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

When Jesus heard[ it], he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?For we know him that hath said, Vengeance[ belongeth] unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

For so hath the Lord commanded us,[ saying], I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

But when the king heard[ thereof], he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things[ which belong] unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

And it shall come to pass,[ that] every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery;( as I wrote afore in few words,Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff,[ so] their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name:

Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof[ shall be] with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make[ it] desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

[ Even] the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:To whom God would make known what[ is] the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which[ is] in Jerusalem.Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner[ stone], a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only[ to] understand the report.For the bed is shorter than that[ a man] can stretch himself[ on it]: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself[ in it].For the LORD shall rise up as[ in] mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as[ in] the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.

And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided[ him], saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.

For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
