“ For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;

夫大維在世、既完成天主之旨、及其既逝、與列祖同塋、則已朽壞；

“ Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed.

“ David carried out God’s purpose while he lived. Then he died. He was buried with his people. His body rotted away.

For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption,

This is not a reference to David, for after David had done the will of God in his own generation, he died and was buried with his ancestors, and his body decayed.

For David, after serving God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and decayed,

For David, after he had served God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep, and was buried among his fathers and underwent decay;

For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

For David, after serving his own generation in God’s plan, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and decayed.

For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

For David, after he had served God’s purpose in his own generation, died, was buried with his ancestors, and experienced decay,

For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, was laid with his fathers, and saw decay.

“ Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said,‘ I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’

So David rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David.

“ When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

Then David said,“ This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”So David commanded to gather the aliens who were in the land of Israel; and he appointed masons to cut hewn stones to build the house of God.And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails of the doors of the gates and for the joints, and bronze in abundance beyond measure,and cedar trees in abundance; for the Sidonians and those from Tyre brought much cedar wood to David.Now David said,“ Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious throughout all countries. I will now make preparation for it.” So David made abundant preparations before his death.Then he called for his son Solomon, and charged him to build a house for the Lord God of Israel.And David said to Solomon:“ My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build a house to the name of the Lord my God;but the word of the Lord came to me, saying,‘ You have shed much blood and have made great wars; you shall not build a house for My name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in My sight.Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around. His name shall be Solomon, for I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son, and I will be his Father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’Now, my son, may the Lord be with you; and may you prosper, and build the house of the Lord your God, as He has said to you.Only may the Lord give you wisdom and understanding, and give you charge concerning Israel, that you may keep the law of the Lord your God.Then you will prosper, if you take care to fulfill the statutes and judgments with which the Lord charged Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and of good courage; do not fear nor be dismayed.Indeed I have taken much trouble to prepare for the house of the Lord one hundred thousand talents of gold and one million talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond measure, for it is so abundant. I have prepared timber and stone also, and you may add to them.Moreover there are workmen with you in abundance: woodsmen and stonecutters, and all types of skillful men for every kind of work.Of gold and silver and bronze and iron there is no limit. Arise and begin working, and the Lord be with you.”David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,“ Is not the Lord your God with you? And has He not given you rest on every side? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land is subdued before the Lord and before His people.Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God. Therefore arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy articles of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the Lord.”

That he should continue to live eternally, And not see the Pit.

And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God,Whom I shall see for myself, And my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

Then Solomon rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.

So Uzziah rested with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial which belonged to the kings, for they said,“ He is a leper.” Then Jotham his son reigned in his place.

They lie down alike in the dust, And worms cover them.

Jesus said,“ Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him,“ Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

So David reigned over all Israel, and administered judgment and justice to all his people.

For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.

In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”

So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed-Edom with joy.And so it was, when God helped the Levites who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, that they offered seven bulls and seven rams.David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who bore the ark, the singers, and Chenaniah the music master with the singers. David also wore a linen ephod.Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn, with trumpets and with cymbals, making music with stringed instruments and harps.And it happened, as the ark of the covenant of the Lord came to the City of David, that Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David whirling and playing music; and she despised him in her heart.

Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

He said to them,“ You are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites; sanctify yourselves, you and your brethren, that you may bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel to the place I have prepared for it.For because you did not do it the first time, the Lord our God broke out against us, because we did not consult Him about the proper order.”So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel.And the children of the Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders, by its poles, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the Lord.Then David spoke to the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers accompanied by instruments of music, stringed instruments, harps, and cymbals, by raising the voice with resounding joy.

So Rehoboam rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David. Then Abijah his son reigned in his place.

From following the ewes that had young He brought him, To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance.So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

And David said to all the assembly of Israel,“ If it seems good to you, and if it is of the Lord our God, let us send out to our brethren everywhere who are left in all the land of Israel, and with them to the priests and Levites who are in their cities and their common-lands, that they may gather together to us;and let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we have not inquired at it since the days of Saul.”Then all the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

If I say to corruption,‘ You are my father,’ And to the worm,‘ You are my mother and my sister,’

After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep.

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written:“ Death is swallowed up in victory.”

And it shall be, when your days are fulfilled, when you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up your seed after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice,“ Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Like sheep they are laid in the grave; Death shall feed on them; The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; And their beauty shall be consumed in the grave, far from their dwelling.

And Jehoshaphat rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David. Then Jehoram his son reigned in his place.

Also, in time past, even when Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the Lord your God said to you,‘ You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over My people Israel.’”

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
