For David, after he had served God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep, and was buried among his fathers and underwent decay;

就是说，大卫虽然在自己的世代，遵行了神的计划之后就睡了，归到他祖先那里，并且经历了腐朽，

「大衛在世時遵行上帝的旨意，最後死了，葬在他祖先那裡，肉身也朽壞了。

論到大衛、他在自己的世代中奉行了上帝的計畫、就長眠下去，放在他祖宗旁邊，見了敗壞；

就是說，大衛雖然在自己的世代，遵行了神的計劃之後就睡了，歸到他祖先那裡，並且經歷了腐朽，

夫大衛在其世、行上帝之旨、既寢、歸其列祖而朽壞、

蓋大闢生時、遵上帝旨、卒則與祖同朽、

蓋大衛在世時、遵天主旨而盡其職、其後乃逝、逝原文作寢歸於列祖而朽壞、

夫大維在世、既完成天主之旨、及其既逝、與列祖同塋、則已朽壞；

“ Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed.

“ David carried out God’s purpose while he lived. Then he died. He was buried with his people. His body rotted away.

For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption,

This is not a reference to David, for after David had done the will of God in his own generation, he died and was buried with his ancestors, and his body decayed.

For David, after serving God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and decayed,

“ For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;

For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

For David, after serving his own generation in God’s plan, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and decayed.

For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

For David, after he had served God’s purpose in his own generation, died, was buried with his ancestors, and experienced decay,

For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, was laid with his fathers, and saw decay.

“ Brothers, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said,‘ I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will.’

Then David lay down with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David.

When your days are finished and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come from you, and I will establish his kingdom.

So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body;it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

Then David said,“ This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”So David gave orders to gather the strangers who were in the land of Israel, and he set stonecutters to cut out stones to build the house of God.And David prepared large quantities of iron to make the nails for the doors of the gates and for the clamps, and more bronze than could be weighed;and timbers of cedar beyond number, for the Sidonians and Tyrians brought large quantities of cedar timber to David.David said,“ My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord shall be exceedingly magnificent, famous, and glorious throughout the lands. Therefore I now will make preparations for it.” So David made ample preparations before his death.Then he called for his son Solomon, and commanded him to build a house for the Lord God of Israel.David said to Solomon,“ My son, I had intended to build a house for the name of the Lord my God.But the word of the Lord came to me, saying,‘ You have shed much blood and have waged great wars; you shall not build a house to My name, because you have shed so much blood on the earth before Me.Behold, a son will be born to you, who shall be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days.He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son and I will be his Father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’Now, my son, the Lord be with you that you may be successful, and build the house of the Lord your God just as He has spoken concerning you.Only the Lord give you discretion and understanding, and put you in charge of Israel, so that you may keep the Law of the Lord your God.Then you will prosper, if you are careful to follow the statutes and the ordinances which the Lord commanded Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous, do not fear nor be dismayed.Now behold, with great pains I have prepared for the house of the Lord a hundred thousand talents of gold and a million talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond measure, for they are in great quantity; I have also prepared timber and stone, and you may add to that.Moreover there are many workmen with you, stonecutters, masons of stone, and carpenters; and all of them are skillful in every kind of work.Of the gold, silver, bronze, and iron there is no limit. Arise and work, and may the Lord be with you.”David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon, saying,“ Is the Lord your God not with you? And has He not given you rest on every side? For He has handed over to me the inhabitants of the land, and the land is subdued before the Lord and before His people.Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God; then arise, and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the Lord.”

That he might live on eternally, That he might not undergo decay.

Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I will see God,Whom I, on my part, shall behold for myself, And whom my eyes will see, and not another. My heart faints within me!

And Solomon lay down with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David; and his son Rehoboam reigned in his place.

So Uzziah lay down with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the grave which belonged to the kings, for they said,“ He had leprosy.” And his son Jotham became king in his place.

Together they lie down in the dust, And maggots cover them.

Jesus* said,“ Remove the stone.” Martha, the sister of the deceased,* said to Him,“ Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

So David reigned over all Israel; and he administered justice and righteousness for all his people.

For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God.

By the sweat of your face You shall eat bread, Until you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return.”

So it was David, with the elders of Israel and the captains of thousands, who went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed edom with joy.Because God was helping the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen with all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the leader of the singing with the singers. David also wore an ephod of linen.So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the horn, with trumpets, with loud sounding cymbals, with harps, and lyres.When the ark of the covenant of the Lord came to the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David dancing and celebrating; and she despised him in her heart.

Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

and he said to them,“ You are the heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites; consecrate yourselves, you and your relatives, so that you may bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel to the place that I have prepared for it.Because you did not carry it at the first, the Lord our God made an outburst against us, since we did not seek Him according to the ordinance.”So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel.The sons of the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles on them, just as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the Lord.Then David spoke to the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their relatives as the singers, with musical instruments, harps, lyres, and cymbals, playing to raise sounds of joy.

And Rehoboam lay down with his fathers and was buried in the city of David; and his son Abijah became king in his place.

From the care of the ewes with nursing lambs He brought him To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance.So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them with his skillful hands.

David said to all the assembly of Israel,“ If it seems good to you, and if it is from the Lord our God, let us send word everywhere to our kinsmen who remain in all the land of Israel, and to the priests and Levites who are with them in their cities with pasture lands, that they meet with us;and let us bring back the ark of our God to us, since we did not seek it in the days of Saul.”Then all the assembly said that they would do so, for this was right in the eyes of all the people.

If I call to the grave,‘ You are my father’; To the maggot,‘ my mother and my sister’;

After that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;

For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.But when this perishable puts on the imperishable, and this mortal puts on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written:“ Death has been swallowed up in victory.

When your days are fulfilled that you must go to be with your fathers, then I will set up one of your descendants after you, who will be from your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice,“ Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” Having said this, he fell asleep.

Like sheep they sink down to Sheol; Death will be their shepherd; And the upright will rule over them in the morning, And their form shall be for Sheol to consume So that they have no lofty home.

Then Jehoshaphat lay down with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and his son Jehoram became king in his place.

In times past, even when Saul was king, you were the one who led out and brought in Israel; and the Lord your God said to you,‘ You shall shepherd My people Israel, and you shall be leader over My people Israel.’ ”

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as indeed the rest of mankind do, who have no hope.
