And as John was finishing his course, he said,‘ Who do you think I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.’

約翰將卒事、曰、爾以我為誰、我非基督、有後我來者、其履我不堪解、

約翰職事將竣、曰、爾曹意我為誰、我非基督、彼後我而來、其足之履、我亦不堪解、

迨其使命將畢、如望恆曰：「爾等以吾為誰？實非基督；惟有後我來者、吾雖為之解履、猶愧未稱、」

As John was completing his work, he said:‘ Who do you suppose I am? I am not the one you are looking for. But there is one coming after me whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.’

John was coming to the end of his work.‘ Who do you suppose I am?’ he said.‘ I am not the one you are looking for. But there is someone coming after me. I am not good enough to untie his sandals.’

And as John was finishing his course, he said,‘ What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but behold, after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

As John was finishing his ministry he asked,‘ Do you think I am the Messiah? No, I am not! But he is coming soon— and I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the sandals on his feet.’

Now as John was completing his mission, he said,‘ Who do you think I am? I am not the one. But one is coming after me, and I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet.’

And while John was completing his course, he kept saying,‘ What do you suppose that I am? I am not He. But behold, one is coming after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What suppose ye that I am? I am not he. But behold, there cometh one after me the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose.

Then as John was completing his life’s work, he said,‘ Who do you think I am? I am not the One. But look! Someone is coming after me, and I am not worthy to untie the sandals on His feet.’

And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not[ he]. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of[ his] feet I am not worthy to loose.

But while John was completing his mission, he said repeatedly,‘ What do you think I am? I am not he. But look, one is coming after me. I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet!’

As John was fulfilling his course, he said,‘ What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

And he preached, saying,“ There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.

But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

John answered them, saying,“ I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know.It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.”

He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed,“ I am not the Christ.”And they asked him,“ What then? Are you Elijah?” He said,“ I am not.”“ Are you the Prophet?” And he answered,“ No.”Then they said to him,“ Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”He said:“ I am‘ The voice of one crying in the wilderness:“ Make straight the way of the Lord,”’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

Now as the people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not,John answered, saying to all,“ I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Jesus said to them,“ My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.

For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake.

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said,“ Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said,“ Behold the Lamb of God!”

When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them.

After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said,“ I thirst!”Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth.So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said,“ It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

Then Paul said,“ John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”

John answered and said,“ A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.You yourselves bear me witness, that I said,‘ I am not the Christ,’ but,‘ I have been sent before Him.’He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.

And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

But when Herod heard, he said,“ This is John, whom I beheaded; he has been raised from the dead!”For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her.Because John had said to Herod,“ It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”Therefore Herodias held it against him and wanted to kill him, but she could not;for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.Then an opportune day came when Herod on his birthday gave a feast for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee.And when Herodias’ daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl,“ Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”He also swore to her,“ Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”So she went out and said to her mother,“ What shall I ask?” And she said,“ The head of John the Baptist!”Immediately she came in with haste to the king and asked, saying,“ I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her.Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in prison,brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother.

He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.
