After he had given permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned with his hand to the people. When there was a great hush, he addressed them in Aramaic:“ Brothers and fathers, listen now to my defense before you.”

As they were leaving, the people urged them to speak about these matters the following Sabbath.After the synagogue had been dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking with them and urging them to continue in the grace of God.

God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.

but in every nation the person who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.

When Peter saw this, he addressed the people:“ Fellow Israelites, why are you amazed at this? Why do you stare at us, as though we had made him walk by our own power or godliness?

“ Let anyone who has ears to hear listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name is inscribed that no one knows except the one who receives it.

His salvation is very near those who fear him, so that glory may dwell in our land.

His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear him.

Some Jews in the crowd gave instructions to Alexander after they pushed him to the front. Motioning with his hand, Alexander wanted to make his defense to the people.
