So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught a significant number of people. Now it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians.At that time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

So Joseph, a Levite who was a native of Cyprus, called by the apostles Barnabas( which is translated“ son of encouragement”),

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of Iturea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,

It was he who gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,

And we have different gifts according to the grace given to us. If the gift is prophecy, that individual must use it in proportion to his faith.If it is service, he must serve; if it is teaching, he must teach;

But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, teaching and proclaiming( along with many others) the word of the Lord.

And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, gifts of healing, helps, gifts of leadership, different kinds of tongues.Not all are apostles, are they? Not all are prophets, are they? Not all are teachers, are they? Not all perform miracles, do they?

Both Judas and Silas, who were prophets themselves, encouraged and strengthened the brothers with a long speech.

( He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.)

At that time, some Pharisees came up and said to Jesus,“ Get away from here, because Herod wants to kill you.”But he said to them,“ Go and tell that fox,‘ Look, I am casting out demons and performing healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will complete my work.

They did so, sending their financial aid to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or uninformed person enters, he will be convicted by all, he will be called to account by all.The secrets of his heart are disclosed, and in this way he will fall down with his face to the ground and worship God, declaring,“ God is really among you.”

When he learned that he was from Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who also happened to be in Jerusalem at that time.When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him and was hoping to see him perform some miraculous sign.So Herod questioned him at considerable length; Jesus gave him no answer.The chief priests and the experts in the law were there, vehemently accusing him.Even Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, dressing him in elegant clothes, Herod sent him back to Pilate.

From there they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work they had now completed.When they arrived and gathered the church together, they reported all the things God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith for the Gentiles.

Or do only Barnabas and I lack the right not to work?

and when Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they began to speak in tongues and to prophesy.

And Saul agreed completely with killing him. Now on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were forced to scatter throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria.Some devout men buried Stephen and made loud lamentation over him.But Saul was trying to destroy the church; entering one house after another, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.

But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, and because of all the evil deeds that he had done,Herod added this to them all: He locked up John in prison.

All the saints greet you, especially those who belong to Caesar’s household.

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard reports about Jesus,and he said to his servants,“ This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead! And because of this, miraculous powers are at work in him.”For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,because John had repeatedly told him,“ It is not lawful for you to have her.”Although Herod wanted to kill John, he feared the crowd because they accepted John as a prophet.But on Herod’s birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod,so much that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.Instructed by her mother, she said,“ Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.”Although it grieved the king, because of his oath and the dinner guests he commanded it to be given.So he sent and had John beheaded in the prison.

Timothy, my fellow worker, greets you; so do Lucius, Jason, and Sosipater, my compatriots.

But Saul( also known as Paul), filled with the Holy Spirit, stared straight at him

And the rest of the Jews also joined with him in this hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was led astray with them by their hypocrisy.

Now those who had been scattered because of the persecution that took place over Stephen went as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the message to no one but Jews.But there were some men from Cyprus and Cyrene among them who came to Antioch and began to speak to the Greeks too, proclaiming the good news of the Lord Jesus.

and when James, Cephas, and John, who had a reputation as pillars, recognized the grace that had been given to me, they gave to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, agreeing that we would go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

Meanwhile Saul, still breathing out threats to murder the Lord’s disciples, went to the high priest

So Barnabas and Saul returned to Jerusalem when they had completed their mission, bringing along with them John Mark.

Do not treat prophecies with contempt.
