在安提阿當地的教會中有一些做先知傳道的和教師，包括巴拿巴、稱為尼格爾的西蒙、古利奈人盧吉斯、與分封王希律一起長大的馬納恩，還有掃羅。他們在服事主、禁食的時候，聖靈說：「來，你們把巴拿巴和掃羅為我分別出來，去做我所召喚他們做的工作！」於是他們禁食、禱告，按手在巴拿巴和掃羅身上，就送他們走了。
