有些當兵的也問他，說：「那麼我們呢？我們該做什麼呢？」約翰說：「不要敲詐任何人，也不要勒索人，當以自己的糧餉為滿足。」

如果奴僕的主人是信徒，不可因為主人是弟兄就輕看他們；反而倒要服事他們，因為從這樣的美事而得益處的，是信徒、是蒙愛的人。你要教導、勸勉這些事。

在凱撒里亞有一個名叫哥尼流的人，是那叫做「意大利」軍團的百夫長，他是個敬虔的人，與全家都敬畏神；他慷慨地賙濟民眾，常常向神禱告。

亞伯拉罕的僕人聽見他們這話，就俯伏於地向耶和華下拜。

事實上，我也在人的權下，也有士兵在我之下。我對這個說『去』，他就去；對那個說『來』，他就來；對我的奴僕說『做這事』，他就去做。」耶穌聽了，十分感慨，對跟隨他的人說：「我確實地告訴你們：在以色列我沒有見過有這麼大信心的人。

亞伯拉罕老了，上了年紀。耶和華在一切事上都祝福亞伯拉罕。亞伯拉罕對管理他所有家業、家中最大的僕人說：「請你把手放在我大腿底下，我要你指著耶和華——天和地的神起誓，不可從我所住的迦南，為我的兒子娶他們的女兒為妻；而要到我的本土本族去，為我的兒子以撒娶妻。」那僕人對他說：「假如那女子不願意隨著我到這地來，那麼我必須把你的兒子帶回你離開的故土嗎？」亞伯拉罕對他說：「你要小心，不要把我的兒子帶回那裡。耶和華——天上的神對我說話，又向我起誓說：『我必把這地賜給你的後裔』；他曾帶我離開父家和本族之地。現在他必派遣使者在你前面，你就得以從那裡為我的兒子娶妻。如果那女子不願意隨著你來，我讓你起的這誓就與你無關了，只是你不可把我的兒子帶回那裡。」於是那僕人就把手放在他主人亞伯拉罕的大腿底下，為這事向他起誓。那僕人從他主人的駱駝群中取來十頭駱駝，拿著他主人的各樣美物就出發了；他起身往美索不達米亞，去拿鶴的城。

約拿單對替他拿兵器的年輕人說：「走，我們過到未受割禮之人的守軍那裡吧！或許耶和華會為我們行事，因為無論人多人少，什麼也不能阻礙耶和華施行拯救。」替他拿兵器的對他說：「你心裡想的一切，你儘管去做吧！只管前行，看哪，我與你同心。」
