在該撒利亞有一個人，名叫哥尼流，是意大利營的百夫長。他是一個虔誠的人，他和全家都敬畏神，對人民行過許多善事，常常向神禱告。

亞伯拉罕的僕人聽到了他們這些話，就俯伏在地敬拜耶和華。

我自己是在別人的權下，也有兵在我以下；我對這個說‘去！’他就去，對另一個說‘來！’他就來；對僕人說‘作這個！’他就作。”耶穌聽了，就很驚奇，對跟隨的人說：“我實在告訴你們，這樣的信心，我在以色列中從來沒有見過。

亞伯拉罕老邁了，年事已高，耶和華在一切事上都賜福給他。亞伯拉罕對他家中最老的，管理他所有產業的那僕人說：“請把你的手放在我的大腿底下。我要你指著耶和華天地的神起誓，不可從我現在居住的迦南人中，為我的兒子娶他們的女子為妻。你卻要到我的故鄉、我的親族那裡去，為我的兒子以撒娶妻。”僕人問亞伯拉罕：“如果那女子不願跟我到這地方來，我必須把你的兒子帶回你原出之地去嗎？”亞伯拉罕對他說：“你要謹慎，切不可帶我的兒子回到那裡去。耶和華天上的神，就是領我離開我的父家和我親族之地，曾經對我說話，又向我起誓的那位說：‘我必把這地賜給你的後裔。’他必在你前面差派他的使者，你就可以從那裡為我的兒子娶妻。如果那女子不願跟你來，我叫你所起的這誓就與你無關了。只是不可帶我的兒子回到那裡去。”於是，僕人把手放在他主人亞伯拉罕的大腿下，為這事向亞伯拉罕起誓。那僕人從他主人的駱駝裡取了十匹駱駝，帶著主人各樣的美物，起程往兩河之間的亞蘭去，到了拿鶴的城。

約拿單對替他拿武器的僕人說：“來！我們過到這些未受割禮的人的駐軍那裡去，也許耶和華會為我們動工，因為不論人多或人少，都不能妨礙耶和華施行拯救。”替他拿武器的僕人對他說：“照你的心意作吧！去吧，我必與你同心。”
