These Jews were more open- minded than those in Thessalonica, for they eagerly received the message, examining the scriptures carefully every day to see if these things were so.Therefore many of them believed, along with quite a few prominent Greek women and men.

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters! Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.

and though my physical condition put you to the test, you did not despise or reject me. Instead, you welcomed me as though I were an angel of God, as though I were Christ Jesus himself!

The discerning person acquires knowledge, and the wise person seeks knowledge.

So put away all filth and evil excess and humbly welcome the message implanted within you, which is able to save your souls.

Whoever then humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

( Let the wise also hear and gain instruction, and let the discerning acquire guidance!)

“ Therefore be advised that this salvation from God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen!”

Guard against self- deception, each of you. If someone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become foolish so that he can become wise.

In Judah God moved the people to unite and carry out the edict the king and the officers had issued at the LORD’s command.

So get rid of all evil and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.And yearn like newborn infants for pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up to salvation,

I tell you the truth, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”

Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to the ear of the one who listens.

But now, why should we die, because this intense fire will consume us! If we keep hearing the voice of the LORD our God we will die!Who is there from the entire human race who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the middle of the fire as we have, and has lived?You go near so that you can hear everything the LORD our God is saying and then you can tell us whatever he says to you; then we will pay attention and do it.”When the LORD heard you speaking to me, he said to me,“ I have heard what these people have said to you– they have spoken well.If only it would really be their desire to fear me and obey all my commandments in the future, so that it may go well with them and their descendants forever.

Give instruction to a wise person, and he will become wiser still; teach a righteous person and he will add to his learning.The beginning of wisdom is to fear the LORD, and acknowledging the Holy One is understanding.

And so we too constantly thank God that when you received God’s message that you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human message, but as it truly is, God’s message, which is at work among you who believe.

But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
