But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison, led them out, and said,

Thus he became so far better than the angels as he has inherited a name superior to theirs.

Cornelius replied,“ Four days ago at this very hour, at three o’clock in the afternoon, I was praying in my house, and suddenly a man in shining clothing stood before me

Now while Peter was puzzling over what the vision he had seen could signify, the men sent by Cornelius had learned where Simon’s house was and approached the gate.

Then a breath of air passes by my face; it makes the hair of my flesh stand up.It stands still, but I cannot recognize its appearance; an image is before my eyes, and I hear a murmuring voice:

He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him,“ Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”

For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve came to me

Suddenly a vast, heavenly army appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon,because the sun’s light failed. The temple curtain was torn in two.Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said,“ Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And after he said this he breathed his last.

Now there was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision,“ Ananias,” and he replied,“ Here I am, Lord.”

At about three o’clock Jesus shouted with a loud voice,“ Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is,“ My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

He informed us how he had seen an angel standing in his house and saying,‘ Send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter,

But the angel said to them,“ Do not be afraid! Listen carefully, for I proclaim to you good news that brings great joy to all the people:Today your Savior is born in the city of David. He is Christ the Lord.

Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to serve those who will inherit salvation?

For the sake of my servant Jacob, Israel, my chosen one, I call you by name and give you a title of respect, even though you do not recognize me.

An angel of the Lord, standing on the right side of the altar of incense, appeared to him.

The LORD said to Moses,“ I will do this thing also that you have requested, for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.”

While Peter was still thinking seriously about the vision, the Spirit said to him,“ Look! Three men are looking for you.

Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the prison cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up, saying,“ Get up quickly!” And the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.The angel said to him,“ Fasten your belt and put on your sandals.” Peter did so. Then the angel said to him,“ Put on your cloak and follow me.”Peter went out and followed him; he did not realize that what was happening through the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.After they had passed the first and second guards, they came to the iron gate leading into the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went outside and walked down one narrow street, when at once the angel left him.When Peter came to himself, he said,“ Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from everything the Jewish people were expecting to happen.”
