向他說話的天使離開了之後，哥尼流便叫了兩個家僕、和常伺候他的一個敬虔的兵來，把一切事向他們述說一遍，就差遣他們往約帕去。第二天、那些人正在行路、將近那城的時候、約在中午十二點、彼得上房頂去禱告。覺得餓了，想要喫。人正豫備飯的時候、彼得魂遊象外。看見天開着，有一件器物降下來、像一塊大床單、繫着四角、放下來在地上。裏面有地上各樣的四足動物、昆蟲、和空中的飛鳥。有聲音對他說：『彼得，你起來，宰來喫。』彼得說：『主啊，千萬不可；因為各樣俗污不潔淨之物、我從來沒有喫過。』聲音又第二次對他說：『上帝所潔淨的、你別當作俗污了。』這樣有三次，那器物就被接上、到天上去了。彼得心裏很為難，不知道所看見的異象是甚麼意思。正在那時、哥尼流所差遣的人已經詢問到西門的家，站在大門口，呼喊着查問、有沒有稱彼得的西門住在那裏作客。彼得還在沉思默想那異象的時候，聖靈對他說：『有人正找你呢。』

洗完了他們的腳，耶穌就穿上外衣，再坐席，對他們說：『我向你們作的、你們明白麼？

彼得在約帕一個硝皮匠西門家裏住了好些日子。

眾人都驚奇，心裏很為難，就彼此對說：『這是甚麼意思啊？』

守殿官和祭司長聽見了這些報告的話，心裏很為難，不知道事情要怎樣變化。

大約白天三點，他在異象中顯然看見上帝的一個天使進來找他，對他說：『哥尼流。』

他們竭力探索那在他們裏面的「被膏者之靈」所豫先證明被膏者必受的苦以及後來必得的榮勝所指的是甚麼時候、或甚麼情況。

這些事該怎樣究問、我心裏為難，就問他有沒有意思要上耶路撒冷，在那裏為這些事受審判。
