On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command:“ Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.

While he was with them, he declared,“ Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait there for what my Father promised, which you heard about from me.

And look, I am sending you what my Father promised. As for you, stay in the city until you are empowered from on high.”

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.

“ When the Counselor comes, the one I will send to you from the Father— the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father— he will testify about me.

Therefore, since he has been exalted to the right hand of God and has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, he has poured out what you both see and hear.

He said this about the Spirit. Those who believed in Jesus were going to receive the Spirit, for the Spirit had not yet been given because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you.When he comes, he will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment:About sin, because they do not believe in me;about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me;and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.“ I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now.When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak on his own, but he will speak whatever he hears. He will also declare to you what is to come.He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.Everything the Father has is mine. This is why I told you that he takes from what is mine and will declare it to you.

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.“ Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.You have heard me tell you,‘ I am going away and I am coming to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.

For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that very hour what must be said.”

After saying this, he breathed on them and said,“ Receive the Holy Spirit.

because it isn’t you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father is speaking through you.

If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

not by all the people, but by us whom God appointed as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

But while they still were amazed and in disbelief because of their joy, he asked them,“ Do you have anything here to eat?”So they gave him a piece of a broiled fish,and he took it and ate in their presence.
