On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command:“ Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.

我要使我父的應許臨到你們身上，你們當在城裡等候，直到得著從上面來的能力。”

我要請求父，他就會賜給你們另一位保惠師，使他跟你們永遠在一起。

“我從父那裡要差來給你們的保惠師，就是從父那裡出來的真理的靈，他來到的時候，要為我作見證。

他既然被高舉到神的右邊，從父領受了所應許的聖靈，就把他澆灌下來，這就是你們所看見所聽見的。

他這話是指著信他的人要接受聖靈說的；那時聖靈還沒有降臨，因為耶穌還沒有得著榮耀。

但我要把實情告訴你們，我去是對你們有益的。如果我不去，保惠師就不會到你們這裡來；我若去了，就會差他到你們這裡來。他來了，就要在罪、在義、在審判各方面指證世人的罪。在罪方面，是因為他們不信我；在義方面，是因為我到父那裡去，你們就再看不見我；在審判方面，是因為這世界的統治者已經受了審判。“我還有許多事要告訴你們，可是你們現在擔當不了；只等真理的靈來了，他要引導你們進入一切真理。他不是憑著自己說話，而是把他聽見的都說出來，並且要把將來的事告訴你們。他要榮耀我，因為他要把從我那裡所領受的告訴你們。父所有的一切，都是我的；所以我說，他要把從我那裡所領受的告訴你們。

但保惠師，就是父因我的名要差來的聖靈，他要把一切事教導你們，也要使你們想起我對你們所說過的一切話。我留下平安給你們，我把自己的平安賜給你們；我給你們的，不像世界所給的。你們心裡不要難過，也不要恐懼。你們聽見我對你們說過：‘我去，但還要回到你們這裡來。’你們若愛我，就要喜樂，因為我到父那裡去，又因為父是比我大的。

到了時候，聖靈必把當說的話教導你們。”

說了這話，就向他們吹一口氣，說：“你們領受聖靈吧！

因為說話的不是你們，而是你們的父的靈，是他在你們裡面說話。

你們雖然不好，尚且知道把好東西給自己的兒女，何況天父，豈不更把聖靈賜給求他的人嗎？”

不是顯現給所有的人看，而是給神預先揀選的見證人看，就是我們這些在他從死人中復活之後，與他一同吃喝的人。

他們歡喜到不敢相信，並且很驚奇。耶穌說：“你們這裡有甚麼吃的沒有？”他們就給了他一片燒魚。他接過來，在他們面前吃了。
