耶稣这话是指信祂的人要得到圣灵，但当时圣灵还没有降临，因为耶稣还没有得到荣耀。

然而，我把实情告诉你们，我去对你们是有益的，因为如果我不去，护慰者就不会来，我去了就会派祂到你们这里来。祂来了，就要在罪、义、审判方面责备世人。在罪方面责备他们，是因为他们不信我；在义方面责备他们，是因为我要去父那里，你们再也看不到我了；在审判方面责备他们，是因为这世界的王受了审判。“我还有许多事情要告诉你们，可是你们现在不能明白。等到真理之灵来了，祂会引导你们，让你们明白一切的真理。祂不凭自己说话，而是把祂所听见的和有关将来的事告诉你们。祂也要把从我那里领受的指示你们，使我得荣耀。因为父的一切都是我的，所以我才说祂要把从我那里领受的指示你们。

但护慰者，就是父为我的名而差来的圣灵，将教导你们一切的事，并使你们想起我对你们说的一切话。我把平安留给你们，把我的平安赐给你们，我赐给你们的平安不像世人给的平安。你们心里不要忧愁，也不要害怕。“我对你们说过，我去了还要再回到你们这里。如果你们真的爱我，就应当为我去父那里而欢喜快乐，因为父比我大。

因为到时候圣灵必指示你们当说的话。”

然后祂向他们吹了一口气，说：“你们领受圣灵吧！

因为那时候说话的不是你们自己，乃是你们父的灵借着你们说话。

你们虽然邪恶，尚且知道把好东西给儿女，天父岂不更要赐圣灵给那些求祂的人吗？”

不是向所有的人显现，而是向被上帝预先拣选为祂做见证的人显现，就是我们这些在祂复活以后与祂一同吃喝过的人。

门徒又惊又喜，半信半疑。耶稣问：“你们这里有吃的吗？”他们便给祂一片烤鱼，祂接过鱼来在他们面前吃了。
